Beauty Buzz: Double Time

I recently read a parody about the differences between men and women- one of which was the number of products stowed in our bathroom cabinets. They quipped men used about six and women had probably amassed over two hundred (men could identify only twenty of those items). While, I certainly don’t have that many because I run a tight ship in my medicine cabinet, there’s not much room for anyone else’s shaving cream. Last week was all about beauty products that work their magic overnight, but how about saving room when packing for weekends away? The only thing more terrifying to a man than opening his own medicine cabinet to find the tampons you’ve stashed there is seeing you show up with two bags- one for your clothing and another for the sole purpose of your beauty regime. Rememer, we woke up like this. Save time, money, and space (and your boyfriend’s sanity) by employing products that are multipurpose. Whether it be using conditioner as shaving cream or Aquaphor as both lip and eyelash treatments or the cult classic, NARS multiple for cheeks, lids, and lips, these products are working double (and sometimes triple) time.

Setting the Mood: Double Trouble

I woke up the other day and somehow it had become June. I feel as though I’d been waxing poetic for summer for so many months it was startling when it actually arrived. It’s kind of like wanting and wishing for something and then being freaked out when you finally get it. The story of my life. I’m no Susan Miller, but I do know that most of this month is dedicated to the Geminis of the zodiac and they are known for being the “yin and the yang,” the twins of the astrological calendar. A self proclaimed style schizophrenic, I find there’s nothing better than scoring something you can wear in more ways than one and we all know I love to double up on things I like. In most cases, sans pimples and ex-boyfriends in the same bar, two is always better than one.

Beauty Buzz: Overnight Celebrity

As women of the twenty first century, our responsibilities span far beyond those of merely managing a manor or being ladies in waiting sausaged in organ crushing corsets and starched petticoats on our front porches, sweet tea in delicate gloved hands. We hold down high powered jobs, raise families, nurture romantic and platonic friendships, lead fruitful social lives and are expected to do so all while keeping up with societal (and sometimes completely unrealistic) beauty standards. We barely have enough time to squeeze in a workout before fighting our way through our monotonous morning commutes, let alone pamper ourselves the way we definitely deserve having survived a 55 hour work week, complete with tyrant boss and tuna fish eating cube mate. Since we are so great at multitasking all day long, why wouldn’t we craft up clever ways to put our beauty products to work while we cash in on those six holy hours of sleep before that dreaded alarm sounds and we do it all over again? Setting the Mood: Beauty Sleep

Fun fact: I’m narcoleptic. Okay, maybe not clinically speaking, but show me a pillow and I’ll show you a coma. I’m probably one of four people who has ever fallen asleep in Las Vegas… at a nightclub… with a giant costumed Elmo dancing right above her head. If I were to be a fairytale princess, I would undoubtedly be Sleeping Beauty. As a matter of fact, I should be much more beautiful due to the amount of beauty sleep I’ve amassed over the years. I once had a boyfriend who told me that he was comforted by how restfully I slept. He thought it meant I had a clear conscience. Ha. And while I’ve fallen asleep on dates forcing them to leave their phone numbers on tabloid covers and scraps of napkin, my narcolepsy has saved me from many a late night pizza delivery. So, my unpredictable sleep patterns aren’t all bad as long as you don’t mind my snoring.

Setting the Mood: Ready, Set, Summer.

The unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day, is upon us (the official start of summer is June 21) wherein I realize I have been like the grasshoppers rather than ants all spring. Meaning, while everyone packs up their cars, boards the Luxury Liner or (shudder) the LIRR, I’m left waving goodbye and cursing myself for not having thought ahead to make plans or get a boyfriend. It’s not all a loss though, I won’t suffer through the hell that is Hamptons traffic and there is a pool two blocks away that will be potentially slightly less crowded. And just because I may be catching my Vitamin D all by my lonesome doesn’t mean I have to look like it. Perhaps I could even fool myself into believing that I’m on my own very exclusive private island called Manhattan.
