Setting the Mood: Strange Stew

Ever have one of those days, weeks, months where nothing really seems quite right? Try as you might to make some sort of sense of things, it’s just not happening. So, maybe you drank too much wine or stayed out too late or just did anything you could to distract yourself. At least for a little while. But like all good things, these distractions can’t last forever and whatever problems were initially there will still be there in the morning… along with a splitting headache. While fixating on what’s wrong or what’s not working may also not be the answer, you gotta start somewhere. That’s why collecting a bunch of things and throwing them together like a sort of stew can be a whole lot better than just stewing. I get the feeling some of the best recipes in the world may have started off as experiments.

Setting the Mood: Just Another Day at the Beach

I’m not quite sure where the phrase, “Life’s a beach.” came from, but I am quite certain if that were the case, people would be a whole lot happier. Whether it be the white sandy beaches off the Gulf Coast of Florida or the majestic rocky points in Half Moon Bay, the beach is one of those things that’s just so beautiful no man could have made it. Most people have fond memories from time spent by the sea. I know I do. (Well, except that incident with a dragonfly in Daytona). We spent our summers there, took family vacations there, and some who are very lucky call it home. With the weather warming up, it’s hard not to start daydreaming about spreading out your towel on the soft sand and soaking up a little bit of sun (with proper SPF, of course).

Tangerine tango not your thing? That’s fine. There’s another shade that is sure to make this spring just as refreshing. Try a little bit of mint to put a spring in your step. It looks great in a head to toe look or something just as simple as freshly painted phalanges. The color is equally as flattering on all skin tones, so don’t be afraid to experiment with this spearminty shade of green.

Fun fact: mint chocolate chip ice cream ranks as my #1 all time favorite ice cream. That in and of itself should be enough to get you on board with mint this spring.

Setting the Mood: Takes Two To Tango

Drum roll, please… In case you haven’t already heard, this year Pantone named Tangerine Tango the “color of the year.” And it couldn’t be better timing. What a perfect color for spring to offset your beautiful (faux) tan. This shade caught on early from the switch of crimson to coral lips and even little ol’ me was seen sporting tangy tangerine. The color is so big, in fact, that Sephora has even teamed up with Pantone to create a “crush” worthy collection of the citrus shade (which is available now). Setting the Mood: Pastel Me, Please.

Second to the clean crisp contrast of black and white, pastels are my favorite shades in the rainbow. I think it’s because they remind me of the sky right before sunset (you know, when the sky looks like a big bowl of sherbet). There’s nothing I love more than a good sunset… well, almost nothing. And just like clockwork, pastels are making a huge comeback for spring. From soft mint, to sweet lavender and blushy pinks, all the colors of the evening sky are showing up on everything from denim to handbags. I love the look of monochromatic head to toe pastels, but if you want to add just a touch to your look, try incorporating accessories or just simply nail polish to remain on trend without feeling like an easter egg.
