Why Did You Wear That: Runway Rewind

By |September 13th, 2014|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

new york fashion week lincoln centerOh, hey there.  In case you don’t have access to cable or a smartphone, last week (and a half) was New York Fashion Week.  The fashion elite have since jetted off to London for round two, but here’s a little sneak peak into what was my NYFW experience.  I kept things pretty quiet on Instagram as when I scrolled through my own feed, I was bombarded with photo after photo… after photo of the shows.  I tried to snap shots of things that not everyone was capturing- like bored little girls in the front row and the contents of my bag.  This wasn’t my first rodeo and I can wax poetic like all of those annoying New Yorkers who recall a city of a different era.  A city that still had a little grit and required more than a weird outfit to garner getting papped outside Lincoln Center.  (Did you see the Jimmy Fallon bit?).  So, while I miss when Fashion Week was more about fashion that it was fluff, I am happy to have been a part of another New York ritual.

Why Did You Wear That: Dive In

By |March 6th, 2014|Why Did You Wear That?|

kirsten smithEveryone knows I love lingerie, a good cocktail, and my maltipoo, Smitty.  Something else I love more than the average juice fasting female is swimwear.  Some girls are all about bags, some about shoes and while I love both, a bikini is always certain to catch my attention as well as my paycheck.  I even consider myself a bit of a bathing suit expert.  I mean, I spent two years having the pleasure of filling Bendel’s with barely there beachwear.

I love bathing suits so much there are times when I wonder why I don’t just move to an island and live in a bikini whilst sipping on fresh coconuts, but then I get bored even imagining it and continue on in my concrete jungle.

Sure, this took me the greater portion of a day to pull together, but because I love swimwear so much, I enjoyed every moment of it.  Whether you love a one piece or the teeniest of itsy bitsy bikinis, I’ve rounded up a suit in almost all of this spring’s biggest trends that should tickle your fancy or at least your fanny.  So, here it is.  The most elaborate swimsuit guide you’ll see and ever need to get you beach bum and poolside ready.

new york springWe love spring.  We love dresses.  We love spring dresses.  Since you’re all up to date on spring’s biggest fashion and beauty trends, I figured we’d take it one step further by rounding up some of spring’s most stylish frocks that fell into each trend.  Honestly, it was almost too easy.

Setting the Mood: Life in Plastic

By |November 11th, 2013|Setting the Mood|

In a world full of fakes, who needs any more plastic than what’s already out there?  There are very few things made of plastic that I can honestly endorse: Barbies, credit cards, Legos, and breasts.  Interestingly enough, it would appear that many designers have revisited this once shunned material in the form of accessories and outerwear.  This time around, wearing plastic and PVC look more sophisticated than the run of the mill Missy Elliot music video.  To add sheen to an otherwise casual outfit opt for plastic rather than pearls.

Why Did You Wear That: Hot Child in the City

By |July 9th, 2013|Personal Style|

When I opted not to hop a flight to New Hampshire, I found that the city was essentially empty this past weekend.  It was like my own little Manhattan.  And while it sure is nice to have the sidewalks all to myself, it can also feel a little like the apocalypse.  Fortunately, a few friends also chose to stick around, so we made the best of our sticky and abandoned city. Roaming the streets with to-go cups (yes, we acted as if Manhattan was Cancun on spring break) and my own personal paparazzi, we kept ourselves more than a little entertained.

The only way to keep cool during hot July nights is with your hair as far off your back as possible, t-shirts with plenty of ventilation, and short shorts.  The boots may appear to be an odd choice, but with the unpredictability of downpours this past week, I’d had my sandals drenched and trekked through enough puddles posing as ponds to have learned my lesson.
