Friday Frocks: Blue Jean Baby

By |August 5th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

There’s nothing more American than denim… and apple pie… and apparently Sienna Miller taming a tiger.  Perhaps you’re not the type of girl who likes to slip into skin tight jeans, but  you’d still like to try to show some patriotism by wearing this heavy duty fabric.  Today’s your lucky day!  By God, every day is your lucky day because you live in America!  Denim isn’t reserved strictly for your stems these days.  Just take a look at how these stylish celebs (and America’s favorite Brit) have been wearing their blue jeans.

Who knew denim could make for such fabulous frocks?  By wearing you blues in dress form, you are giving a casually playful look that is perfect for summer barbecues, running errands, and lunching with girlfriends.  Depending on shoes and and accessories, this look can be dressed up or dressed down.  Just like jeans, denim frocks are very versatile.

Why Did You Wear That: You’ve Got Flare

By |March 8th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

We’ve been obsessed with skinnies for several seasons now, but flares are showing up again for spring.  I am certainly partial to a sleek skinny jean, but I have to admit that flares are so much more flattering on almost every body type.  The wide leg really balances out even the most pear shaped figures and can make short legs seem miles long.

Now, be warned: High waist flares are not meant for everyone (recall the Jessica Simpson incident?).  To look good in high waisted jeans, you basically have to have the flattest (I’m talking practically inverted) tummy and a bubble butt.  Not too many of those girls out there.  High waisted denim also isn’t particularly flattering on you shorties or short waisted gals.  Stick with a lower cut pair and always make sure that you don’t look like you’re drowning in your hem.

I love a wider leg 70’s inspired jean with a delicate floaty blouse and platform sandals.  Channel your inner “Angel” and step out in these belled babies.

Top (L to R): Citizens of Humanity Angie Super Flare Jean, $229, Rebecca Taylor Front Zip Runway Denim Pant, $195, Pray For Mother Nature Devils Post Pile Bellbottoms, $176, MiH Marrakesh Flare Jeans, $186, J Brand Kiki High Rise Flare, $180 Bottom (L to R): J Brand Lovestory Flare Jeans, $178, Gap Vintage Flare Jeans, $69.50, 7 for All Mankin Kaylie Jeans, $168, TEXTILE Elizabeth & James Jimi Flare Jeans, $195, Red Valentino High Rise Flare Jeans, $310

Friday Frocks: Some Day My “Prints” Will Come

By |January 28th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

Once upon a time there was a fair maiden with a closet full of beautiful black frocks.  She wore her always chic, always sophisticated staple pieces day in and day out without putting too much thought into it.  One day, she tired of looking like all the other maidens in the land and decided to spice things up a bit.  She did so by adding colors and patterns into her daily routine.  She was already lovely, but in her new fun and flirty frocks, she stood out from the rest.  This caused her to catch the eye of a very handsome prince.  He appreciated her independent spirit and confidence.

L to R: Nanette Lepore Go Getter Printed Dress, $298, Herve Leger Geometric Print Mini Dress, $1,850, Thakoon Floral Print Peasant Dress, $665, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent High Low Tank Dress, $335, Topshop Navy Petal Print Notch Tea Dress, $78

L to R: Parker Print Ruffle Dress, $195, Joie Perrier Silk Floral Printed Dress, $228, Matthew Williamson Escape Printed Silk Chiffon Dress, $1,350, RebeccaTaylor Leopard Print Ruffle Dress, $295, Alice and Olivia Matilda Boquet Print Dress, $367

After seeing how these prints caught the prince’s attention, all the other maidens followed suit.  Luckily, with so many options in color, prints, and patterns, none of the maidens ever looked the same.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Monday Mashup: Red Carpet Repeat

By |January 17th, 2011|Monday Mashup|

So, before I announce who I found fantastic and who made me cry “foul!”, I decided to recap the rest of the red carpet from the Golden Globes.  Um… I can’t help but notice… there were a lot of duplications in the wardrobe department.  Whoops! Perhaps the stylists in Hollywood need to communicate more.  Having a twin on the red carpet might be every starlet’s worst nightmare, but seeing double gives us much more to compare come Monday.  While I have my own opinions on who rocked the look best, I’m going to go ahead and let you- my usually fashionably elite- readers decide. Now, behold the beauties that were the Golden Globes:

A Case of the Ex:

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham vs. Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab

Moody Nudes:

Carrie Underwood in Badgley Mischka vs. Dianna Agron in J. Mendel

Pretty in Pink:

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta vs. Megan Fox in Armani Prive

Is White Right?

Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza vs. Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad
