Friday Frocks: Stop and Smell the Roses

By |April 8th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

This spring, fashionistas have been going crazy for floral printed frocks.  I know what you’re thinking, the last time floral prints were in was when Kelly and Donna were graduating from West Beverly High.  What could possibly be chic about decking yourself out in fussy flowers?  Well, actually a lot.  Floral patterns have come a long way from the mid nineties.  My love of florals is unwavering and as you may remember, my favorite dress… er, dresses… are floral printed.  Check out these fierce florals and tell me you’re not a believer:

1. D & G Floral Ruffle Dress, $745, 2. Forever 21 Peek A Boo Dress, $15.80, 3. MINKPINK Darling Buds of May Sundress, $103, 4. Diane von Furstenberg Graca Dress, $325, 5. Anna Sui Watercolor Floral Garden Mixed Print Dress, $425, 6. Nanette Lepore Candy Girl Dress, $298, 7. JOIE Painterly FLoral Balinda Dress $288, 8. Free People Parisian Bouquets Halter Dress, $128, 9. Carin Wester Nakato Shirtdress, $295, 10. Free People Everything Nice Lace Dress, $98

Toughen up your floral frock with chunky platforms and edgy accessories so that you look more like a primrose than a wallflower.

Girl Crush: Full of Glee

By |February 24th, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

I can not lie, I don’t watch Glee.  However, one young lady keeps showing up on red carpets and catching my attention: Dianna Agron.  Apparently she plays Quinn, a perky and somewhat promiscuous cheerleader and glee club member (again, I don’t follow the show).  With her all American good looks, Agron fits the part of cheerleading queen bee perfectly.  While she pulls off the fresh faced bouncing ponytail look with ease, what really impresses me is the way she transforms herself from pink cheeks and shiny pout to smoky eye and sexy updo.

Agron has managed to merge pretty with edgy.  She pairs classic Chanel couture with smudgy cat eyes and rocker hair.  While she isn’t going to go down in history as a style icon, she is the absolute perfect mix of sugar and spice.

Want to put a little pep in your step?  Try a few of these Agron inspired pieces.  Add her favorite Chanel lipstick and polish to take even your sweetest ensemble to the next level and always be sure to have that good girl glow with Benetint’s Posietint.

Top (L to R): Rebecca Minkoff Rumi Dress, $425, Chanel le vernis Nail Color, $25, Christian Louboutin Rolando Patent Leather Platform Pumps, $695,  Volcom Time Lines Striped Tank Dress, $38, Bottom (L to R): Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Color, $35, American Apparel Plaid Chiffon Double Layered Shirred Waist Skirt, $42, Nanette Lepore Latin Lover Dress, $348, Benefit Posietint, $28

Cheerio!

Why Did You Wear That: Feel the Love

By |February 22nd, 2011|Why Did You Wear That?|

I am a true hopeless romantic.  I always root for love and happily ever after.  Lately, my heart has been filled with so much joy because of all the love around me.  My best friends are all getting married with Micro Weddings ceremoney at beach and many other awesome destinations, engaged, and having beautiful little babies.  It’s an overwhelmingly happy time and I’m so happy to be a part of their bliss.  That said… I’ve got a lot of weddings coming up!  What’s a girl to wear?

Wedding invitation dress codes can often be tricky.  What’s the difference between black tie and black tie optional?  What colors are okay to wear?  And is this hem too high?  Here are three of the most common types of wedding dress codes and what to wear to each.

Black Tie: This is the most formal of dress codes.  Typically, this would require a long formal gown.  Most of us probably have a black gown tucked away in our closets in case of such events, but I love adding some color to the mix.  Besides, you will be one of fifty wearing black if you just go with old faithful.  Don’t go overboard and cover yourself in sequins and sparkles (this is not your senior prom or the Grammy’s).

Top (L to R): Aidan Mattox Chiffon Halter Gown with Beaded Waist, $440, Badgley Mischka Chiffon Tiered Halter Gown, $990, BCBG MAXAZRIA Strapless Silk Chiffon Gown, $348 Bottom (L to R): Issa Silk Jersey Gown, $885, Lanvin Asymmetric Washed Satin Gown, $3,480, Nicole Miller Water Washed Reverse Charmeuse Gown, $620

Cocktail/Black Tie Optional: Black tie optional is more often than not in reference to the men’s attire.  If your invitation reads “black tie optional” you are welcome to wear a dress much like the ones above in “black tie” or you could wear a formal cocktail dress.  Be sure that your cocktail attire isn’t too low cut or shorter than a tube top.  Have some respect for the bride.  There’s nothing wrong with looking fantastic, but you don’t want to draw eyes away from the bride for all the wrong reasons.  When in doubt, ask yourself, “Would I want some bitch at my wedding wearing this?” *Note: if this wedding is being held at the Playboy Mansion, all of these rules go out the window. Game on.

Top (L to R): Catherine Malandrino Silk Chiffon Dress, $495, Rachel Gilbert Sasha Embellished Silk Chiffon Dress, $1,160, Calvin Klein Ruffle Trim Chiffon Dress, $158 Bottom (L to R): Mark and James Tulle Ruffle Sequin Dress, $355, Kurt Thomas Silk Chiffon One Shoulder Dress, $400, Top Shop Chiffon A Line Dress by Rare, $78

Afternoon/Destination: The world’s love of “brunch” has spilled over into the wedding arena.  Many couples are opting for brunch or afternoon weddings.  For such occasions the dress code is much more relaxed.  A flowy maxi dress, or flirty chiffon frock paired with wedges is a perfect choice for such an event.  This is also a great option for destination weddings.  Be sure to wear a fabric that breaths if you’re heading to a steamy climate.  You may also want to factor in having to remove your heels for flats or bare feet on the beach, so make sure your hemline won’t trip you up.

Top (L to R): Gryphon Chain Link Maxi Dress, $390, Nanette Lepore Rain or Shine Floral Maxi Dress, $648, The Furies Hex Maxi Dress, $165 Bottom (L to R): Rozae R.N. Chiffon Colorblock Dress, $334, Tibi Racerback Maxi Paisley Dress, $583, Heritage 1981 Tribal One Shoulder Maxi Dress, $24.90

Friday Frocks: Some Day My “Prints” Will Come

By |January 28th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

Once upon a time there was a fair maiden with a closet full of beautiful black frocks.  She wore her always chic, always sophisticated staple pieces day in and day out without putting too much thought into it.  One day, she tired of looking like all the other maidens in the land and decided to spice things up a bit.  She did so by adding colors and patterns into her daily routine.  She was already lovely, but in her new fun and flirty frocks, she stood out from the rest.  This caused her to catch the eye of a very handsome prince.  He appreciated her independent spirit and confidence.

L to R: Nanette Lepore Go Getter Printed Dress, $298, Herve Leger Geometric Print Mini Dress, $1,850, Thakoon Floral Print Peasant Dress, $665, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent High Low Tank Dress, $335, Topshop Navy Petal Print Notch Tea Dress, $78

L to R: Parker Print Ruffle Dress, $195, Joie Perrier Silk Floral Printed Dress, $228, Matthew Williamson Escape Printed Silk Chiffon Dress, $1,350, RebeccaTaylor Leopard Print Ruffle Dress, $295, Alice and Olivia Matilda Boquet Print Dress, $367

After seeing how these prints caught the prince’s attention, all the other maidens followed suit.  Luckily, with so many options in color, prints, and patterns, none of the maidens ever looked the same.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Why Did You Wear That: Skirting the Issue

By |May 11th, 2010|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

Oh, hey Spring. Thanks for joining us. As we saw the temperatures rise last week, the hemlines rose as well. My favorite look I saw the beautiful girls of New York sporting was flirty floral tiered skirts.  It was feminine and sexy without being over the top. I’d like to think that this would be a hit with the fellas (what do you think, guys? love it?). Anyway, I have, again, scoured the internet for some of the best of the best so you too can skirt around town:

Clearly, I’m going to need to get an intern solely responsible for taking photos and Flip camming everything. (Any takers?). Anyway, as soon as this random cold spell decides to take a hike, hopefully I’ll see lots of pretty girls wearing pretty floral skirts.
