Friday Frocks: Frock Optional

By |June 8th, 2012|Friday Frocks|

baby rompersThis shouldn’t be news to you, but I love rompers.  If there’s a romper on the rack, most likely it’s going to end up in my closet.  Sure they’re really annoying when you have to use the ladies’ room and not the best choice when going in for a Brazilian, but they are one step dressing (Why do you think babies like them so much?).  Which leads me to my point… Frocks have been getting all the attention.  Rompers are all like, “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.”  Well, fact is, rompers are my Marcia.  And this week, they will be yours as well.

Why Did You Wear That: Park It

By |June 7th, 2012|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

why cant i feed the ducks

Growing up, I always loved to feed the ducks at Wheeling Park.  My animal obsession clearly began at an early age.  I gave up meat for several years as a kid because I realized that bacon came from pigs and at that time I was campaigning for a pot belly pig of my own.  I remember this particular park was full of animals.  They had a mini zoo complete with strutting peacocks.  So, it was sad to return to see that you aren’t even allowed to feed the ducks anymore.  Now, it’s just kind of a pond with paddle boats… hardly the magical playland that it used to be…

Why Did You Wear That: Let’s Rock

By |June 5th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

nina nguyen necklaceIt’s true.  Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.  However, in the off chance that you aren’t dripping in them or perhaps, you’ve decided to give yours a day off, there are some other stones out there that are sure to add a bit of unexpected glamour to your get up.  Take a cue from your college requirement filling geology course.  That’s right, geodes and nature’s minerals are the new rocks you should be rocking.

I recently bought a Nina Nguyen necklace on Hautelook and it’s been a fan favorite with friends and family.  These gems make for great (and somewhat) affordable gifts as well.  Hey, they’re cheaper than diamonds… but just as pretty.

Setting the Mood: Turn it Down

By |June 4th, 2012|Setting the Mood|

muted color paletteWell, in case you were wondering, neon is a HUGE trend for summer.  So huge, in fact, that I’m already over it.  Having arrived back in New York, I could not believe how much neon I saw on the gorgeous girls of Manhattan.  It wasn’t just a matter of a bright sighting here and there… It was more like packs of girls who looked like a pack of highlighters.  Each lovely lady clad in a dayglow shade.  Well, I knew I’d had enough when I, myself, was sporting a tank top as bright as the highlighted passages in my summer reading.  Everywhere I looked, someone else was wearing a similar style.  I wanted to hide, but it’s awfully difficult to be inconspicuous when sunglasses are needed just to take a gander in my direction.

So what better antidote to neon than the muted shades of a summer sky?  For once, being subdued will be what makes you stand out.

Friday Frocks: Cut It Out

By |June 1st, 2012|Friday Frocks|

pink scissorsSpeaking of cutting things up.  Another trend for summer that will most likely carry into fall is that of the cut out dress.  Instead of the daring deep V or the slit all the way up to… designers have opted for the unexpected flash of flesh.  This look is very specific, so let’s not get carried away with too much ventilation- though the impending heatwave may make it tempting.  The look is a peek of skin, not “I was accosted by the cousin of Edward Scissorhands on the way to The Darby.”  So embrace the trend, but not too tightly.
