Best Highlights in Town:
Ana at Jeffrey Stein
250 Columbus Ave. (between 71st and 72nd)
212-580-6000
I can’t believe I’m actually giving up this info, but I’ve had enough hair tragedies to know when I’ve discovered a master. After a $350 disaster as a newbie in the city, I found Ana and have been going to her ever since. She’s so skilled with her brightening abilities, I’m actually able to go months (yes, plural) without a touch up. Added bonus: she actually knows what it means to do an “eyelash trim” to your split ends.
A Cut Above:
82 W 12th St. (near 6th Ave)
212-255-3579
When your hair is starting to look a little so-so, it’s time to call in the big guns. Ryan of Ryan Darius Salon is able to make your bland hair cut breathtaking. He’s not just for the ladies either. He’s mastered the “haircut that doesn’t look like a haircut” so that you fellas don’t have to walk around looking like a pinhead for a week.
Waxing Without the Pain (Almost):
198 Elizabeth St. (between Prince and Spring)
212-274-8985
Okay, so no waxing is completely painless, but this one is pretty darn close. Using Brazilian hard wax, this is a quick (under 30 minutes) and virtually painless task. Be sure to stop in every four weeks and exfoliate in between.
