Girl Crush: Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

By |March 23rd, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

My what big eyes you have… I’ve loved Amanda Seyfried since she played the dopey Karen Smith in Mean Girls alongside Lady Lohan, herself.  So what a perfect choice she was for the storybook turned mega movie, Red Riding Hood, released earlier this month.  With classic fairytale features, they couldn’t have cast a better beauty for little Ms. Hood.

It doesn’t take much for Amanda to look lovely.  With gigantic green eyes, perfectly porcelain skin, and hair that dreams were made of, it would really be hard for this stunning starlet to look bad.  Her red carpet style is simple, understated, and very sexy.  She knows her legs are her best feature and she isn’t afraid to show them off (smart girl).  During her downtime, Ms. Seyfried can be spotted around town with dog, Finn and her signature sunglasses.  Her style is always effortlessly chic.

SAG 2011: Ladies Brought Their A-Game

By |January 31st, 2011|Red Carpet Recap|

Last night the brightest and most beautiful joined together to celebrate the 2011 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.  I was tuned in and ready to scream at my TV screen as I watched the red carpet arrivals, but surprisingly, there was not much to be angry about (um, except for you Jane Lynch… wtf?).  All I can conclude from this is that these sexy starlets must be reading WhyDid.

Great Whites:

Let me be perfectly clear… I am not, by any means, saying that I love all of these dresses. I am merely pointing out how dead on I was with white being the new black.  While Winona looks like a crazy runaway bride, Natalie was absolutely breathtaking (not to mention she finally heeded my advice about embracing her baby bump).  The ladies in white looked like real life angels on the red carpet.

Hote Hues:

Nothing makes me happier than seeing young hot Hollywood embracing color.   From juicy tangerine shades, to shocking pinks, to spring’s hottest stripes, these ladies nailed it.  They took these saturated shades on with a vengeance.

Under the Sea:

From deep navy to patterned hues of green and blue, these ladies put the Little Mermaid to shame.  Each dress encompassed a different feeling, but all embraced beautiful ocean shades and flattered the ladies who dared to wear them.

Subtle Shades:

If you know anything about WhyDid, you know that I love shades that are slightly off white– bonus if they include a bit of shimmer.  Each of these lovely ladies embraced a bit of both.  I can’t help but wonder if the girls of Glee didn’t plan to look equally as stunning in these subtle hues.

While I was looking forward to some red carpet calamities, I’m now actually looking forward to the red carpet of the Academy Awards.

Monday Mashup: Red Carpet Repeat

By |January 17th, 2011|Monday Mashup|

So, before I announce who I found fantastic and who made me cry “foul!”, I decided to recap the rest of the red carpet from the Golden Globes.  Um… I can’t help but notice… there were a lot of duplications in the wardrobe department.  Whoops! Perhaps the stylists in Hollywood need to communicate more.  Having a twin on the red carpet might be every starlet’s worst nightmare, but seeing double gives us much more to compare come Monday.  While I have my own opinions on who rocked the look best, I’m going to go ahead and let you- my usually fashionably elite- readers decide. Now, behold the beauties that were the Golden Globes:

A Case of the Ex:

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham vs. Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab

Moody Nudes:

Carrie Underwood in Badgley Mischka vs. Dianna Agron in J. Mendel

Pretty in Pink:

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta vs. Megan Fox in Armani Prive

Is White Right?

Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza vs. Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Mean Green:

Angelina Jolie in Versace vs. Mila Kunis in Vera Wang

Well Red:

January Jones in Versace vs. Sofia Vegara in Vera Wang

It’s a Sherbert:

Emma Stone in Calvin Klein Collection vs. Claire Danes also in Calvin Klein Collection

Blue for You:

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier vs. Jenna Ushkowitz in Rebecca Taylor vs. Amy Adams in Marchesa

Why Did You Wear That: January First

By |August 30th, 2010|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

So, yes, we all know the Emmy’s happened last night. I, myself, did not watch seeing as I just moved into my new apartment and have yet to get cable installed. Oops. Anyway, One dress that I did catch on the new this morning was that of Ms. January Jones. She chose a blue number by Versace and apparently it’s struck up a bit of debate, although I’m not sure why. To me, this dress is not debatable. It’s ugly. I wouldn’t wear it. You wouldn’t wear it. She’s a beautiful woman, but the dress is fug. Those who say differently are suffering from “The Emperor’s New Clothes Syndrome.” Here’s the dress. You be the judge:

I give Ms. Thang credit for trying something different, but unfortunately, most times “trying to be different” equates to “trying too hard” (or just ugly).

Why Did You Wear That: Put Some Spring in Your Step

By |March 23rd, 2010|Why Did You Wear That?|

Finally the clouds have parted and Mother Nature is giving us a big sunshine filled kiss called spring. So what’s a girl to wear? We wondered the same thing as we attempted to get dressed for brunch this past weekend. We’ve stashed our winter coats and snow boots, but what shall we replace them with? Breaking down some of the big trends on the Spring 2010 runways:

Forward March– Looks like the military jacket will stick around another season. Swap one into your spring rotation for your updated warm weather outerwear.

Mixed Bag– A fun trend on this season is the bold mixing and matching of prints. Done head to toe in one pattern or mixing complimentary patterns will give you a head turning look.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses– Floral patterns were running rampant on the runways.  Whether Laura Ashley’esque or Painterly prints, it’s time to water your girly seed and sport some florals for spring.

Tit for Tat– Finally, something I’ve been doing for years is being validated on the runway. Sheer and sexy, models showed their underpinnings as much as their outerwear.

In the Nude– Neutrals were big on the runway. One in particular was nude. Get naked.

Peekaboo!– Another one of my favorite trends from the runways was the amount of cut out dresses being shown. They are very, very sexy in an unconventional way.

Ruffle Your Feathers– A fun and flirty alternative to fur? Feathers. Just don’t go overkill and end up looking like Big Bird. One feathered piece at a time.

A Shine of the Times– Recession? What recession? Shine and shimmer were all over the runways giving the luxe look. Shine isn’t just for evening. Dress up your everyday look with something shiny.

Speaking of shiny, get out your AmEx cards, girls. Adding a few key pieces can re-vamp what’s already going on in your closet.
