I know you guys love my writing (yammering), but it seems we are a generation that is totally enraptured with photos. And well, like they say, pictures are worth a thousand words. So, it’s no wonder that we spend a lot of time on our phones and computers uploading and “liking” photos.

Smart is the New Pretty: Kids These Days…

There will come a point in your life when you’ll come to the startling realization that you’ve become a stodgy old grump… something you thought you’d never be. But alas, here you are; griping about terrible music, saggy pants, and kids these days…

While one student gets expelled for his f-bomb Tweet, [Mashable]
Another’s bikini photo causes a graduation ban. [Huffington Post]
But to be fair… we’re all going to have to watch what we say on Facebook pretty soon. [CNET]
And is if that wasn’t bad enough, SAT and ACT testing security will be revamped after cheating scandal. [Huffington Post]
That probably means most of these students won’t be attending one of these “dream colleges.” [Huffington Post]
Which would eventually lead them to work at one of the worst companies in America (is yours on here?) [Huffington Post]
All of this probably has something to do with why the birth rate is plummeting. We’re too poor to have kids! [Huffington Post]

Gift Guide: Le Geek C’est Chic

If you can’t beat em… join em. Since, we’re clearly overly socialized and technology is only going to get more intense from here, might as well look good while we’re surfing the web/catching up on reading/chatting with friends/etc. You know how I know tech is a big deal? Go to one of your favorite fashion shopping sites… I’m willing to bet they now have a tab under accessories that says, “Tech Accessories.” I would, however, like to point out that there are few and far between (if any) accessories for the Blackberry. Coincidence? … Anyway, a gift that is certain to delight even your most tech savvy friends is something to outfit her favorite electronic device. Since it will probably spend more time on the table than hidden in the depths of her bag, it’s going to need to look good too.

Smart is the New Pretty: Connection Failed

We are so attached to our computers and smart phones, it seems nearly impossible to even get through a dinner without someone (or everyone) picking up his or her phone to text, Tweet, check-in, or share a photo. It begs me to ask the question- have we become TOO social? And have we forgotten what the word “social” really means?

Smart is the New Pretty: Let’s Socialize

As women, we are known to be very social creatures. So, when the buzz word “social media” started popping up everywhere (and is even now considered a “career”), we thought to ourselves, “Psssh! We’ve been doing this for years.” While there are plenty of folks out there who consider themselves to be gurus, experts and mavens in the venue of Marketing/PR 2.0, most of them haven’t a clue as to what they’re talking about. So, if you’re looking to increase your social presence, it’s probably best not to leave it to the “experts” and start learning yourself! Social Media is constantly changing so you better keep up!

I’d say the guy who really started this craze (or shall we call it obsession) with staying connected is Mr. Zuckerberg. He’s really changed the way people interact… and that’s kinda crazy because he dropped out of college. Which is probably a good thing ’cause student loan debt is out of control. Students took out over $100 BILLION in loans this year alone. [Gawker]
Phew! Glad we sidestpepped that one, Zuck. Really dodged a bullet there. And speaking of Facebook, the number of friends you have on FB may directly link to your brain density. [Mashable]
Hopefully none of those friends are the ones constantly demanding you to “LMS” (like my status). Well, cause that’s just tacky… and annoying.
Oh, you thought that was a funny video? Well, now you can make your own thanks to the integration of WeVideo cloud based video editing platform into YouTube. Yes, you too could be the next Miles Jai. [TechCrunch]
