Setting the Mood: Greyscale

By |October 3rd, 2011|Setting the Mood|

It’s not true what they say.  It does rain in California.  Especially, Northern California.  Today it has rained all day.  I can’t lie though.  Rain is sometimes a welcome change.  The whole cheerful kingdom thing can get old and makes me long for a little grey weather.  A little reality.  I enjoy the rain so much that I actually waited to go for a run until it started raining.  A neighbor stopped me cause he was worried about my well being, but I let him know that I was enjoying the downpour.  I know.  How very emo/hipster of me.  There’s just something refreshing about it.  You don’t have to feel guilty about holing up for the day and indulging in a book or comfort food.  That said… let’s hope the sun comes out tomorrow.

Setting the Mood: Hallucinate a Heatwave

By |August 2nd, 2011|Setting the Mood|

Mark Twain once said, “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.”  Well, he certainly wasn’t kidding.  One would think living in California is all palm trees and sunshine… well, not so much.

After returning from the east coast this week, I realized how much I miss a real summer.  You know, the almost unbearable heat that lingers long past sunset and the humidity that can curl even the most perfectly coifed ‘do.  While it rarely dips below forty in California, the summers are never as warm as those of the east coast.  It never, ever feels like summer.  “They” tell me it gets warm starting in September, but I don’t buy it.

These bright brights are just going to have to get me through the mild California summer.  Perhaps wearing something bright will radiate its own heat.

Setting the Mood: California Dreaming

Coming from New York, Los Angeles never really grew on me.  Tried as I did, I just couldn’t get into it.  Not even the perfectly placed palm trees or toned tanned skin could sway me.  I just didn’t jive with the City of Angels.

That is, until I moved up the coast to San Francisco.  Isn’t it funny how one thing can make you appreciate another?  Needless to say, after yet another freezing cold (not kidding- it’s 40 something degrees today) grey Monday, I can’t help but yearn for sunshine and convertibles.  I would even tolerate the bebe clad girls of Hollywood and Affliction t-shirted douchebags of yore for just one sun filled afternoon and a reason to slip on my Oliver Peoples.

But alas, I must endure the city by the bay for just a little while longer…
