I actually went back and forth a couple of times before finally deciding on my best dressed for this year’s Oscar Awards. All season long, I’ve been asking the ladies of Hollywood to “bring it” and in the words of a real cinematic gem, Bring It On, “It’s already been broughten!” So, I guess it’s safe to say that the starlets of the big screen were just keeping their heavy artillery under wraps until tonight. Much like their careers, no one wants to peak too early. While I did go ahead and pick my top three ensembles, there are so many more that deserve a bit of airtime. After all, it’s just an honor to be nominated, right? Stacy Kiebler wowed in a dress shinier than beau, George Clooney’s, beard, Kerry Washionton popped in a perfect coral red, and Naomi Watts shined in an all over sequin asymmetrical frock. Blues were still in heavy rotation, but a new pastel trend emerged as a favorite. Thankfully, far less black was worn than at previous award shows, but when it was, the dresses were embellished so beautifully that the gowns were anything but basic. And as always, there was plenty of shimmer to light up the red carpet.

We all had high hopes for Jennifer Anniston’s return to the red carpet, but I was less than impressed with a lackluster version of Jennifer Lawrence’s Golden Globes gown and typical Rachel blowout. Anne Hathaway may have won big with Le Mis, but her pink Prada was ill fitting and nearly as awkward as her red carpet interviews. I’m not sure why Olivia Munn was even there (was Magic Mike nominated?), but she and her mess of a dress would have been better off staying at home.

Go for the Gold:

Katherine Zeta Jones in Zuhair Murad, Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive, Renee Zelweger in Carolina Herrera

Win or lose though, one thing’s for sure, I wanna be Jane Fonda when I grow up.

The List Volume LXXIV

In all seriousness, it probably would have been easier to just write the list in its original form (all bad, all the time). But I’ve made an effort to take a look on the bright side, so I managed to scrounge up equal parts happy as well as heinous.

Men in sweatpants in public. I don’t want to get too graphic here, but uh… it’s like the equivalent of a girl with no bra. Catch what I’m saying?
Receiving emails like this. When will men learn that this has the opposite of intended effect?
“Fashion” segments on the Today show and the likes. No wonder most of America look like assholes.
Everyone who thinks he/she is going to get rich like a Zuckerberg by buying Facebook stock. Please stop.
Herve dress with Louis Vuitton bag and Louboutin heels. Don’t be so obvious. (J. Love Hewitt… ahem).

Um… this guy.
Taking my grandma ice cream cones cause she’s decided that’s all she’s going to eat.

Why Did You Wear That: Wake Me Up When It’s Over

As you are probably well aware, tonight marked the 84th Annual Academy Awards. I tuned in a little late and then had to verify with my girlfriends that it wasn’t my tear swollen eyeballs or my many mimosas that left me (yet again) feeling totally underwhelmed and… yawn… bored with what was on the red carpet. They assured me that, yes, everyone was playing it safe and leaving quite a bit of “wow” factor left to be desired. Meryl Streep and Stacy Keebler both sparkled in gold and both took home a handsome man of her own (one being an Oscar…) making them the winners of the night in my book. Perhaps all of Hollywood’s starlets and stylists need to hit the “reset” button because right now, it seems like it all has been done before. I figured the ladies had been warming up all award season for “the Superbowl of fashion” but they too seem to have slipped into a slump.

It took me a while, but I’ve picked my top contenders.

And with every red carpet, there is always a trend, whether good or bad, that prevails. This evening’s was that of the more modest covered arm. Everyone from Louise Roe to Melissa McCarthy was seen sporting this modern day Mormon style. What? Nobody got a Shake Weight for Christmas? I want to like JLo’s and Berenice’s versions, but as for the rest… I think it’s a bit too demure… almost pilgrim like. This is Hollywood, not Plymouth Rock.

And it’s enough to bring on the waterworks again cause that’s my favorite part. C’MON, ladies!! Being unable to highlight the truly trifling just proves my point: it’s time to start taking some risks. Better luck next year.

Now, some of you may just be thinking about the obvious mentions of “Air Force Ones” or “Apple Bottom Jeans” but these sneaky little lyrical poets have expensive (and high end) taste. Why Did You Wear That: Block That Thang Up

The runways were full of splashes of colors for spring. Everyone from Gucci (Katy and Olivia are both wearing Gucci above) to Lanvin to Louis Vuitton sent color blocking down the catwalk.

Olivia, Emmy, and Katy have all been spotted sporting this colorful trend. Color blocking is hot for spring and it’s not a trend for the faint of heart (wallflowers need not apply). Color blocking works best with a mix of brights in the same color family or for a slightly less bold look try a bright color paired with a neutral (black, nude).
