hatsSummer may very well be on its way out, but that hasn’t stopped a few stylish celebrities from shielding themselves from the last bits of sun with their favorite headwear.  Whether they’re trying to be inconspicuous (yeah, right) or hide a bad hair day (dirty hairy), they all look quite chic from morning til midnight in everything from fedoras to a standard straw hat.

Would You Wednesday: Is That a Mirror in Your Pants?

Spring and summer 2012 brought us colored and printed denim… so what precisely does the fall have in store for us in the way of denim?  Brace yourselves… if brands have it their way… everyday is going to be a party.  Aww sookie sookie now.  Denim takes a cue from the disco era with metallic shades ranging from pure platinum to glamorous gold.

I want to say that I like it because as I think about it, I’m picturing the likes of Gisele and Miranda channeling their 70’s disco divas in shiny jeans and feathered hair, but then I remember that 98% of the population does not resemble that of a super model.  This is when I start to think about ol’ Sally over there, three cubicles down sporting the trend and all of a sudden it’s anything but appealing (kind of like the tuna fish sandwich she’s chowing down on).  This is most definitely one of those trends that could either be le freak c’est chic or just totally lay a gasser…

Why Did You Wear That: Puddle Jumper

By |April 24th, 2012|Why Did You Wear That?|

It happens every year.  Just like clockwork, we start to get a little too comfortable with the glorious spring- turning into summer- weather… and then, the clouds roll in, open up, and the rain comes down.  It’s kind of like Mother Nature is just reminding us that she’s still around.  She really does have a twisted sense of humor.  So, that leads us to the age old problem:  how does one stay dapper without getting drenched?

Year after year, I’ve rounded up the most waterproof footwear that’s sure to keep your precious Pradas and Louboutins free from getting waterlogged.  From your feet to your ‘fro, it’s not easy keeping in chic in the spring storms.  There are times you may just want to throw your hands up and think, “Forget it.  It’s raining, I’m gonna call it a loss.”  Here’s the thing:  your rainboots don’t have to be heinous.  Designers have really cranked it up a notch and created rainboots that are nearly as attractive as your everyday footwear wardrobe.  (Have they finally heard our prayers?)  Now, when the rain stops, you won’t be left looking silly in your big rubber wellies.  Instead, you’ll be as lovely as the sunny days that await you in May.

Friday Frocks: Cadbury Cuties

By |April 6th, 2012|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

easter bonnetWhile some of you may only look forward to the Easter season for those delicious Cadbury cream eggs and Peeps, others take this day pretty seriously.  For instance, my mother.  For as long as I had no say in the matter, my mom decked me out from head to toe (literally).  She didn’t just stop with a pretty pastel frock for Sunday service.  She went as far as sewing fresh flowers into my bonnet and that little handbag I was holding.  She was at least kind enough to tuck away some jelly beans in my bag so as to keep me quiet during all those songs at church.  Did I mention I’m tone deaf?  Anyway, if you’re anything like my mom, you’re probably looking to deck yourself out this Sunday.  Lucky for you (and the Easter bunny), everything pastel and floral is right on trend this spring and you should have no trouble at all finding something pretty to wear.   And for my non-Easter celebrating friends, Happy Passover.  Chag Sameach.

Friday Frocks: Something’s Off… White

By |March 30th, 2012|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

girl on a bikeRemember the silly little antiquated rule about not wearing white before Memorial Day?  Well, I’m fairly certain once that pesky groundhog gives the go ahead, it’s fair game.  Still not sure if it’s too soon?  Okay, fine.  So you haven’t headed out to the Hamptons yet and the rose has yet to be put on ice and your skin may or may not still resemble a reel of paper.  Got it.  Until then, why not muster up the courage in a shade slightly less stark than pure white?  Slipping into something cream, eggshell, bone, whatever you want to call it, is a great way to transition into summer without looking totally overzealous.  Plus, to be quite honest, it’s much more flattering on 90% of all skin tones.

off white dresses1. Joie Helga Chiffon Dress, $298 , 2. Jenni Kayne Cutout Gown, $750, 3. Juicy Couture Cotton Blend Lace Shift Dress, $180, 4 .Eternal Sunshine Creations Maxi Dress, $194, 5. One Teaspoon Whisperer Crochet Mini Dress, $200.54, 6. Beyond Vintage Blouson Lace Gown, $328, 7. James Perse Cotton Blend Stretch Jersey Dress, $195, 8. Torn by Ronny Kobo Eva Lace Maxi Dress, $238, 9. Bec & Bridge Snap Dragon V Dress, $302, 10. Parker Pleated Cami Dress, $308

Seriously though, is it ever too early for rose?
