Setting the Mood: There Will Be Fireworks

By |July 2nd, 2012|Setting the Mood|

fireworks flags happy 4thEver pick up the newspaper…. who am I kidding, who reads newspapers.  Ever look at your Twitter newsfeed and after scanning the headlines think to yourself, “Dang it, I’m pretty psyched to be an American.”?  Yeah, I think that sometimes too.  Other times, I’m ready to flee the country, but today isn’t going to be one of those days.  Today we are going to celebrate and channel all that is fabulous about the good ol’ U S of A… and find ways to wear it.  That’s right, we are doing all things stars, stripes, blue, red, and white.

Friday Frocks: Amazing Lace

By |April 1st, 2011|Friday Frocks|

With the temperature reaching an impressive ninety degrees here in LA yesterday, I got excited thinking about shedding all of those winter layers and slipping into something much more summery.  One of my very favorite dresses that I can not bear to part with (no matter the stains or pulls in the fabric) is a simple white lace crochet dress.  The shape is simple and season after season it always looks just right for hot summer afternoons paired with espadrilles and a cool beverage.  There is something so romantic yet so fresh about a dainty white lace dress.  It is a piece that every girl, southern belle or not, should have in her wardrobe.

Friday Frocks: Little White Dress

By |January 14th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

We all have been schooled in the LBD (Little Black Dress), but since I’ve been spending lots (by lots I mean excessive amounts) of time on wedding blogs, I’ve noticed an ever growing trend.  While many women opt for the traditional bridal gown, many are choosing something shorter, more fun, and less conventional for the walk down the aisle.  Can’t lie, I absolutely love a poofy white dress… but I still went the traditional route.  Hm, though there is nothing wrong with a costume change…

By |October 15th, 2010|Friday Frocks|

I figured why not throw you a bone and do a little double duty Friday Frocks. I know, I know… I haven’t been too helpful in the Halloween costume suggestions this year. Probs because I’m a little over all of them. So, here is a happy medium. Dresses that could be worked into a Halloween costume and then worn again in regular daily life.

With some rhinestone or feather hair accessories, voila! You’re a flapper.

Why Did You Wear That: Fair Well, My Friend.

By |September 29th, 2010|Why Did You Wear That?|

So, here’s your mini history lesson for the day, fair isle is a knitting technique used to create patterns using different colors. The technique is named after a small island off the coast of Scotland and became popular after the Prince of Wales sported the knitted vests all the way back in 1921. See? So much smarter and you’re only two sentences in!

I remember sitting in a design meeting two years ago discussing fairisle… so I’m happy to see that it eventually caught on to the masses. While this style probably used to remind you of your grandmother, it is so far from frumpy.
