Why Did You Wear That: Orange You Glad

By |November 24th, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

Normally I would never mix bright orange with anything black so as to avoid looking like a Halloween reject… Not to mention my highschool colors were actually black and orange (Go Cadets!).  However, I really liked the way this orange- or as I like to call it persimmon- looked with the black acid wash of these jeans and was only accented by adding bold gold accessories.

Sure, this look probably isn’t for everyone… or everyday (and no, I’m not wearing it to Thanksgiving dinner), but it brought out my inner hip hop loving fly girl and it kind of just made me want to dance– but what doesn’t?  Wanna join my dance party?  Here’s how to recreate the look:

1. Kain Scoop Neck Pocket Tank, $49.99, 2. Forever21 Skinny Acid Wash Jeans, $27.80, 3. Only Hearts Lace Bralette, $48, 4. Erica Anenberg Crystal Chunk Ring, $145, 5. Erica Anenberg True Gold Twosome Ring, $80, 6. Alexander McQueen Faithful Bootie, $787.99, 7. D&G Abigail 5 Row Necklace, $195

Why Did You Wear That: Trail Blazers

By |November 13th, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

You may only associate the blazer as a piece of clothing worn by uptight businessmen and those ladies who wear white sneakers on their commute to work, but I’d like to let you in on a little style secret.  The blazer is far less boring and uptight than you think it is.  As a matter of fact, a blazer can go great for a laid back weekend running errands or a night out on the town with your girlfriends.  Check out how Heidi, Miranda, and Blake all incorporated this style staple into their wardrobes this week:

1. Forever 21 Open Front Blazer, $28.90, 2. Genetic Denim The Shane Skinny Jeans, $69.74, 3. Charlotte Russe Raised Knit Beret, $9.50, 4. bebe 2b Multicolor Zebra Scarf, $15.95, 5. Nike Air Jordan Alpha 1 iD

1. BCBG Black Woven Stretch Kana Boyfriend Blazer, $125, 2. American Apparel Unisex Fine Jersey Short Sleeve T-shirt, $18, 3. Free People Rocker Vegan Leather Shorts, $98, 4. Forever 21 Sunglasses, $5.80, 5. The Limited Sheer Tights, $16.90, 6. BCBG Falla Buckle Ankle Boots, $142.49

1. Forever 21 Cropped Front Drape Blazer, $29.80, 2. Charlotte Russe Mesh Cutout Bodycon Dress, $29.99, 3. Kate Spade Mint Julep Ring, $78, 4. Topshop Black 120 Denier Opaque Tights, $16, 5. Vince Camuto Jordy Bootie, $139

Time to take the blazer from the cubicle to the cluuuuuurb.

Girl Crush: Go Play a Video Game

By |November 2nd, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

In case you haven’t already been sucked in by her first single, Video Games, this sultry songstress is Lana del Rey.  Though there is much speculation as to whether she is a product of her management and as to where exactly she came from (she was formerly known as Lizzy Grant)- one thing is for sure: girlfriend can sing.  Her sound is like nothing else out there and her voice is utterly intoxicating.  As if her vocal chops aren’t enough, she is strikingly gorgeous with doe eyes and voluptuous lips (also much speculation on those).  Her self described style is “Gangster Nancy Sinatra.”  She sports big hair and big accessories– and in this case, bigger is definitely better.

 1. American Apparel 3D Flower Mesh Jumper, $88, 2. Chaser American Flag Tee, $49, 3. GirlProps Two Finger Nugget Ring, $9.99, 4. Forever21 Twisted Hoop Earrings, $1.50, 5. American Apparel Poly-Cotton 3/4 Sleeve Raglan, $26, 6. Joe’s Jeans 3″ Cut Off Shorts, $83, 7. LipFusion XL, $12.50, 8. Sally Hershberger Supreme Lift, $11.99, 9. Charlotte Russe Flower Duet Headband, $6.50

You the bestest.

Why Did You Wear That: Putting on the Glitz

By |November 1st, 2011|Personal Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

You know how much I love sequin shorts, but fall calls for something a little warmer… yet just as sparkly.  Lucky, lucky me (and you) they have these things called sequin leggings.  While leggings are still not pants and these particular leggings aren’t for everyday wear, these babies are pretty fantastic and sure to turn a few (hundred) heads.  I like this look as an alternative to the “woman wearing a tux” thing.  It’s also a great option for a slightly less dressy than cocktail attire, but definitely more fancy than denim.  With all the upcoming holiday parties and festivities, who doesn’t need another alternative to the LBD?

Little details like a beautiful bangle and bow tie headband complete this party approved look.   Pile hair atop your head in a top notch top knot and slick on some shiny red lipstick.  You’ll be ready to party in no time flat.  Want to recreate this look for your next social gathering?

1. American Apparel Sleeveless Crepe de Chine Button Up, $45, 2. Plan B Sequin Leggings, $93, 3. Forever21 Glossy Bow Headband, $3.80, 4. Kenneth Jay Lane Giraffe Cover Watch, $82.99, 5. Stuart Weitzman Great Neck Suede Bootie, $425

Get your shine on.
