Weekend Playlist: Katie Don’t Play That

By |November 12th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

When I tire of listening to the same playlist over and over and over…. and.  Well, you see where I’m headed.  I turn to my dear friend, Katie (who, if you will recall, guest “dj’ed” before).  She poo poo’s my Christina and Bruno and pulls me out from my teenage pop abyss.  I mean, that’s what friends are for, right?  Listen, Katie knows her music– so, if anyone’s looking for an A&R, this is the girl.  Anyway, I asked Katie to please, please, please make me a playlist that wouldn’t make someone over the age of 16 cringe and she put together this little party:

Oh, Katie… just climbing her way to the top of the charts.

Weekend Playlist: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

By |August 20th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Every girl loves an official “girls night out” but my very favorite part of these nights is what happens before you even step stillettoed foot out the front door.  The best part of a girls night out is primping in the mirror, sipping on cocktails, and possibly a good bit of girl talk.  Perhaps I’m showing my age, but I almost enjoy a “girls night in” more than out… Either way, having a perfect playlist to kick off the night is crucial.

Cheers!

The List Volume 8 Billion

By |August 5th, 2011|The List|

Alright, it probably isn’t eight billion, but I’ve written so many lists, I’ve lost count, so just go with it.  It’s been a while, but I’ve returned to the original “list” format… and don’t worry, you’re not on it.

  1. People who talk to me on airplanes.  We’re seatmates, not friends.
  2. Runaway peacocks.
  3. Backhanded compliments.
  4. Bailey’s non-alcoholic creamer. What’s the point?
  5. Kelly Osbourne’s rant on Christina Aguilera and Kate Middelton.  Who decided this girl is relevant? Not only is she crass, but she’s completely out of touch with reality.
  6. Cheap disposable razors.  Probably better off shaving with shards of glass.
  7. Empty refrigerators.  If there’s not even enough to make a sandwich, it’s time to hit the supermarket.
  8. Kool-Aid colored hair.
  9. Wearing headphones while driving. Is that even legal?
  10. People who can’t park in the confines of a parking space. These are the same people who leave their carts in the parking lot.

Ah, now don’t you feel better?

Weekend Playlist: Mixtape Memories

By |July 16th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Since this weekend is clearly all about LOVE, I went ahead and channeled my 6th grade self by making a love song “mixtape.”  Come on, tell me you don’t remember making “tapes” for your crush.  No?  CD’s? Man I’m old…

Anyway, allow yourself to get into the mood with these sweet, sweet love songs.

Gotta go. My pager’s blowing up.

Weekend Playlist: Moody Blues

By |May 15th, 2011|Weekend Playlist|

Sundays for me are meant for relaxing and doing some work to get a head start on the week.  On Sunday evenings, I often sit and write and just let my brain wander.  Sometimes when I write I need to get in the mood.  Usually that requires me to get a little big moody and emotional.  When I look around at our cute little house, pretty garden, and furry animals, it’s hard to feel dark and brooding.  So, I put on some music that stirs up emotion and at times takes me back to painful memories or makes me think about what they’re singing and how that would feel.  Depressing, right?  Well, I’ve found it to be incredibly helpful in the creative process. (And, no, I don’t typically write in full hair and makeup).

  1. Fiona Apple – Criminal
  2. Mary J. Blige – I’m Going Down
  3. Brian McKnight – Anytime
  4. Christina Aguilera – You Lost Me
  5. The Pretty Reckless – Nothing Left to Lose
  6. Lenny Kravitz – Can’t Get You Off Of My Mind
  7. NIN – Hurt
  8. Adele – Someone Like You
  9. Eddie Vedder – Longing to Belong
  10. Portishead – Sour Times
