Setting the Mood: True Blood (Red)

By |August 16th, 2011|Setting the Mood|

Alright, well I don’t watch True Blood or Twilight or any of the other 35,000 shows about vampires, but all that blood leaves me seeing red– in a good way. There is nothing more sexy or chic than a really saturated red. You may opt to deck yourself out in the hot hue, or just punch up some neutrals with a pop or crimson. Even just a red lip can add a little something to the average outfit. I can’t wait to pick out the perfect shade of red to lacquer up my fingers and toes. There is just something about a little bit of red that can get you all fired up. Vampires or not.

By |August 7th, 2011|Look for Less, Why Did You Wear That?|

Sunday night Hollywood’s hottest headed to the 2011 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles.  While this isn’t quite the Met Costume Gala and may be frowned upon by the fashion elite, I always like seeing the fresh young faces in more casual, carefree attire.  This year, the stunning starlets certainly did not disappoint.  Below are a few of my favorite looks.  I’ve recreated each to show you that looking red carpet ready is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Setting the Mood: California Dreaming

By |July 11th, 2011|Setting the Mood|

Coming from New York, Los Angeles never really grew on me.  Tried as I did, I just couldn’t get into it.  Not even the perfectly placed palm trees or toned tanned skin could sway me.  I just didn’t jive with the City of Angels.

That is, until I moved up the coast to San Francisco.  Isn’t it funny how one thing can make you appreciate another?  Needless to say, after yet another freezing cold (not kidding- it’s 40 something degrees today) grey Monday, I can’t help but yearn for sunshine and convertibles.  I would even tolerate the bebe clad girls of Hollywood and Affliction t-shirted douchebags of yore for just one sun filled afternoon and a reason to slip on my Oliver Peoples.

But alas, I must endure the city by the bay for just a little while longer…

Would You Wednesday: Picture Phone Peekaboo

By |June 1st, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

As many of you have probably read, another young starlet has a “nude photo scandal.”  The lovely Blake Lively of Gossip Girl fame allegedly has some leaked naughty nude photos running rampant via the web.  Her reps were quick to deny they were Blake (shocker), but the resemblance is uncanny.

A couple of things: 1. If I was Blake, I’d claim that body.  Don’t care whose it is- Yowza! 2. If this is not, in fact, Blake, I trust that the fine folks over at Victoria’s Secret/Sports Illustrated, are on the hunt for the young lady who this bodacious bod belongs to.

Okay, so back to the real topic at hand.  When the hell are girls (especially those of the celebrity species) going to learn?  If you take naked pics and send them to your beau du jour, at some point in time an unintended audience will probably be fortunate enough to enjoy your nekkid body.  Now, (Dad- earmuffs), I have sent some racy photos to a significant other before… And while I do wish this fella was no longer in possession of said sexy photos, they weren’t something I’m morbidly ashamed of.  That said- I would NOT want the entire world to see them.  I take care of my body and would like to keep its splendor strictly reserved for my future hubs and my best gal pals (not modest, kids).  If I wanted the entire planet to see all my nooks and crannies, I’d just do a spread in Playboy.  At least I’d get paid…

So what do you think? Yay or nay to nudie photos?

Would You Wednesday: Well Red

By |May 11th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

For years, redheads weren’t always treated like the bombshells they are.  Coppertops, gingers, firecrotches… the list goes on and on.  It seems funny that redheads get such a bad rap when some of our very favorite leading ladies were blessed with rusty roots.  Who doesn’t love Molly Ringwald in Breakfast Club?  What little girl didn’t want to grow up and look like Julia Roberts?  And who can forget about cartoon bombshell Jessica Rabbit?

Recently, crimson coifs are stepping up and taking center stage. Young, hot Hollywood is trading in the standard sunny blonde and sultry brunette for fiery red.

Rihanna has been sporting a very cherry ‘do for quite some time and Scarlett Johansson was the most recent buxom blonde to start seeing red.  These ladies look lovely, but are you ready for red?

Some things you should know before getting all fired up:

  • Approximately 1-2% of the population have naturally occurring red hair and it is a recessive gene.
  • Red is the hardest color to fake due to the many shades available.  Most dye jobs will end up looking very unnatural.
  • Red hair is very difficult to maintain.  It fades faster than all other hair colors.  This can lead to some very strange hues between touch ups.
  • Skin color plays a huge role in red hair.  If you are fair, you can get away with almost any shade of red, but a light red will look most natural.  If you are darker skinned, go with a deep auburn or darker red.
  • Don’t forget: When you dye your hair, the eyebrows must also follow suit.

So, would you dare trade in your shade for red?
