Friday Frocks: Pretty in Pink

By |June 10th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

This week’s Friday Frocks is brought to you by the color “pink.”  While perusing the world wide web… taking one of my mini mental vacations, I stumbled upon what may, in fact, be the greatest place on earth.  No, I’m not talking about Disney World, kiddos.  I’m talking about the “Pink Palace of the Pacific,” the Royal Hawaiian.  I know what you’re thinking.  This can’t be true!  How can a place so magical possibly exist?  Does this mean unicorns are real too?

Well, I’m not sure about unicorns, but this beautiful rosy resort is no myth.  Gazing upon this shrine to every girly girl’s favorite color got me to thinking about what one would wear while lounging poolside at the Pink Palace.  Couldn’t be anything but pink, right?

1. Alice + Olivia Gitana Button Front Dress, $330, 2. Amanda Uprichard Ruffle Front Tank Dress, $194, 3. Free People Vintage Hand Dyed 1940’s Slip, $268, 4. Halston Heritage Shirred Spaghetti Strap Dress, $295, 5. Charlie Jade Birch Dress, $124, 6. Marc and Jame Ruffled One Shoulder Dress, $265, 7. Tibi Ikat Wrap Dress, $330, 8. Roxy Big Break Dress, $39.50, 9. Betsey Johnson Stripe Thermo Bustle Dress, $148, 10. Amanda Uprichard Joan Dress, $194

Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to get back to my vacation.

Girl Crush: Channeling Fran, the Flashy Girl from Flushing

By |March 29th, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

As previously stated, I’m a big fan of “classic” (um, is the 90’s now classic?) television.  One of my favorites is none other than The Nanny starring nasal voiced Fran Drescher.  While on the show she is portrayed as a tacky Jewish girl from Queens, if you look at Fran’s wardrobe, she’s really a trendsetter.  Don’t believe me?  Let’s just take a gander at the spring trends she’s sporting in the photos above:

  • Crop top. Check.
  • Florals. Check.
  • Animal Print. Triple check.
  • Stripes. Check.
  • Colorblocking. Check.
  • Flatforms. Ugh… Check.

Not so tacky now, is she?  A funny site I came across while doing my reconnaissance work for this post called, Should Be On the Nanny, pinpoints just how “on point” Fran was with her over the top outfits.  I often find myself sitting in front of the TV screen thinking one of two things: “I have that outfit” or “I need that outfit.”  If you, too, are channeling your inner girl from Flushing here are some Nanny-approved outfits to hop on your boss’s desk in:

1. Anne Klein New York Polka Dot Silk Georgette Blouse, $136.50, 2. Spring & Clifton Rumour Mini Skirt, $121, 3. Alice + Olivia Nicola Leopard Print Dress, $297, 4. Alice + Olivia Yoko Floral Flutter Sleeve Blouse, $275, 5. Truly Madly Deeply Mini Pencil Skirt, $32, 6. Jonathan Saunders Chilton Embellished Silk Mini Dress, $717.50, 7. bebe Neon Mesh Panel Dress, $129, 8. Theory Elizabeth Short Sleeved Turtleneck Top, $85, 9. Forever 21 Pretty Plaid Skirt, $19.80, 10. Asos Bandeau Leopard Jumpsuit, $53.79, 11. All Saints Mohan Leather Jacket, $395, 12. Report Signature Black Stretch Winston Platform Over the Knee Boots, $252, 13. Bettye Muller Caprice Wedges, $185, 14. Charlotte Olympia Miranda Leopard Platform Wedge, $902, 15. D&G Shocking Rose Black Bow Silk Top, $315, 16. BB Dakota Lance Plaid Skirt, $34, 17. Betsey Johnson Kiss Cotton Jersey Crop Top, $128, 18. French Connection Fast Dazzi Sequin Skirt, $101.99

And that’s how she became the nanny…

Friday Frocks: Yeah Baby!

By |March 11th, 2011|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

It’s no secret that the runways have been channeling the swinging seventies and we’ve seen that flares are making a re-emergence.  With spring just around the corner, what better way to get into the spirit than with a flowy patterned frock?  I’m not talking about fembots and shooting bullets out of your brassiere.  I’m talking about flowing fabrics in psychedelic prints.

Top (L to R): Topshop Dandelion Print One Bell Sleeve Dress, $100, Betsey Johnson Winter Bouquet Burnout Chiffon Tunic, $278, Parker Double Flared Sleeve Dress, $220, Halston Heritage Tunic Mini Dress, $219 Bottom (L to R): Halston Heritage Metallic Pleated Deep V Dress, $395, Nightcap Clothing Priscilla Dress, $264, Winter Kate Devi Dress, $215, Voom by Joy Han Faire Bell Sleeve Off the Shoulder Dress, $195

These breezy dresses would look great paired with flat over the knee boots and a leather jacket until it’s warm enough to lose the boots and strap on some platform sandals.

jacket: Marc New York Stone Leather Asymmetrical Zip Moto Jacket, $399, boots: Loeffler Randal Riley Over the Knee Suede Boots, $825

sandal: Miu Miu Stitch Detail Platform Sandals, $595

Shagadelic, baby! Yeah!

Friday Frocks: Under Where?

By |February 11th, 2011|Friday Frocks|

You thought I was going to do a Friday Frocks with all kinds of red and pink dresses, didn’t you?  C’mon, give me a little credit!  Being someone who loves lingerie as much as I do, I jumped at the chance to leverage the upcoming Valentine’s holiday to highlight some sexy chemises sure to impress anyone lucky enough to lay eyes upon them.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all about raunchy red lingerie (I’m talking to you, Frederick’s).  A sexy chemise is much more subtle, yet just as effective in catching a special someone’s attention.  Rolling solo?  I don’t see why you shouldn’t wear one while doing the dishes or giving yourself an at home mani.  Smitty always appreciates when I do!

Top (L to R): Betsey Johnson Thorny Chiffon Babydoll, $75, La Perla Passion de Fleur Chemise, $350, Stella McCartney Clara Whispering Silk Satin Chemise, $300, La Perla Greta Chemise, $345

Bottom (L to R): Agent Provocateur Uschi Slip, $590, Only Hearts Stretch Lace Tie Back Chemise, $57, Flora Nikrooz Romantic Tiered Ruffled Chemise, $124, Body Wrap Slip Shaper, $78

Dress up to get down.

Why Did You Wear That: Block That Thang Up

By |February 8th, 2011|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

The runways were full of splashes of colors for spring.  Everyone from Gucci (Katy and Olivia are both wearing Gucci above) to Lanvin to Louis Vuitton sent color blocking down the catwalk.

Olivia, Emmy, and Katy have all been spotted sporting this colorful trend.  Color blocking is hot for spring and it’s not a trend for the faint of heart (wallflowers need not apply).  Color blocking works best with a mix of brights in the same color family or for a slightly less bold look try a bright color paired with a neutral (black, nude).

Feeling bold? Try it yourself with some of this bright options:

L to R: Equipment Signature Washed Silk Sleeveless Shirt, $180, Paul and Joe Jacoue Mid-Rise Straight Leg Jeans, $280, Jay Godfrey Holden Color Block Racerback Dress, $495, American Apparel Cotton Spandex Jersey Tank Thong, $26, Pleasure Doing Business 5 Band Solid Skirt, $96.80, Betsey Johnson Color Block Long Tank Sweater Dress, $288, BCBG Color Blocked T-shirt Dress, $148

Rock the block.
