Why Did You Wear That: Victory Tastes SO Sweet!

By |February 15th, 2010|Why Did You Wear That?|

In case you are just tuning in (hey, better late than never), I have been preaching for about as long as leggings have come back in style that they are not, in fact, pants. They are basically thick tights sans feet.  Pants include pockets, zippers, and a yoke. So, nothing made me happier than finding out that American Apparel (a company whose bread and butter is leggings) recently started printing this on the inside of their slinky leggings:

So, I guess this topic is no longer up for discussion. Leggings are NOT pants.

Okay, thanks.

Why Did You Wear That: Get Sprung- Spring Did.

By |March 26th, 2009|Why Did You Wear That?|

Spring is officially here, so it’s time to overhaul your closets.  Time to toss the sweaters and leggings (thank god) and get ready to show some skin.  It’s time to stimulate our economy (it’s called being proactive).  So what if Obama’s trying to take back everyone’s bonuses?  Might as well look cute in the poorhouse.

  • Leather jacket- Wear it with jeans and a tank or over a long maxi dress. Works with both and gives you an easy “I didn’t try too hard” look. (Don’t worry, if you’re feeling timid, you don’t have to go with black. Try a shade of grey or tan).

  • Body Con dress- What have you been going to the gym for?  Shed off those extra layers and show off your toned bod.

Beauty Buzz: Save or Splurge?

By |December 24th, 2008|Beauty Buzz|

save

Due to the current tough economic times, it seems like everyone is cutting back here and there in order to save some cash. (Especially after all of the holiday shopping- not even the ridiculous sales helped!) However, there are a few things that I am just not willing to give up. Below are some items worth the splurge and some others that you can probably skip.

Worth the splurge:

  • Skincare- You only have one face. I’m not saying go out and buy hundreds of dollars worth of La Mer, but if you have a skincare routine that is working for you, stick with it! I’m a big fan of Clarins and Elemis. Neither one is cheap, but youthful skin is totally worth it.
  • Jeans- Finding the right pair of jeans is SO impossible, it’s like finding a needle in a haystack. There are so many different brands out there it can literally take an entire day of shopping to find the brand that suits your body type. I figure that you can wear your jeans in a multitude of ways so they are worth every penny. Granted, you can get great jeans for less than $200. I have a friend who looks amazing in her American Apparel colored jeans… but I think that has something to do with her ridiculous body.
  • Your hair- I would NEVER skimp on good hair. I have had WAY too many tragedies to risk it. I have been going to the same woman since I moved to NY and she’s amazing. She’s not in some fancy salon, but she is pricey (not going to reveal who it is as I like being able to get an appointment). If you’re not willing to risk having to wear a hat for the next month until your bad cut grows out, I would stick with your tried and true.

Some things I’d probably skip:

  • $5 coffee- The guy in the cart is only $1.50. Tastes the same to me!
  • Eating out/ordering in every single night- This gets pricey. Go online and find recipes for your favorite meals. I am no Martha Stewart, but I can cook a mean stuffed zucchini. Bonus: This also gives you leftovers for lunch. Just a thought.
  • Fashion tops- Sure, that Alice and Olivia shirt is cute, but I’m going to bet you can find something similar at Forever 21.  (That’s why they got sued by LAMB and DVF). If you think about how many times you will wear the shirt (in comparison to the billion times you’ll wear your jeans) is it really worth the price tag? Stock your closet with quality basics and fill in with fun and less expensive fashion pieces.

Why Did You Wear That: Lauren Conrad

By |December 10th, 2008|Celebrity Style, Why Did You Wear That?|

LAUREN CONRAD COLLECTION

Let me start off by saying I am not trying to be a hater. I think that everyone should pursue their dreams and go after what they want to do in life. But let’s be serious… can we really call this fashion?

Not only are her designs completely uninspired, but you are also paying $168 for a jersey dress that you could have bought at Forever21.  I honestly can NOT believe they allow her to show at Fashion Week. It’s a joke. Why doesn’t American Apparel have a show while they’re at it? Next thing you know she’ll be at Bryant Park.

I will give the girl credit since unlike most celebrity brands, she actually “designs” hers.  Which is pretty obvious considering it is lacking any creativity. I get that it is easy and “accessible” but that’s just it.  You could have thought this up yourself and gathered these pieces from Express. What ever happened to designers like Zac Posen and Jason Wu? Now that’s talent.

I guess if you have enough $$ anything is possible. (more…)

Friday Frocks: It’s Friday night. What are you going to wear?

By |December 2nd, 2008|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

We are so glad it’s Friday and the work week is finally over. Enough with the spreadsheets and the crashing stock market. On to much more important things… What are you going to wear tonight?

Whether it’s an impromptu night out with the girls or an all important first date, we’ve got you covered. Below are two easy and CHEAP options.

HOT DATE!

This is a great dress for a first date because while it shows off your shape, it is not revealing every inch of your body. My father always told me what is not revealed is much more attractive than putting it all out there (I know he’s my dad, but I do think he is absolutely correct on this). Ask a French girl, she’ll agree. Your date will be wondering what is going on under that dress, but he’ll know he’s not getting any further than your front door.

$36 at American Apparel.

GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT!

This is a great dress with tights and short booties. It comes in multiple colors. This look totally on trend with the “body-con” craze. Scoop neck with even lower back (warning- you can not wear a bra with this). Perfect for a night out with the girls… and a definite way to score a date for next Friday 😉 Best of all it is only $36!

You may want to purchase these to go with this dress: http://www.hollywoodfashiontape.com/products_cover_ups.cfm

Both dresses are available at American Apparel: www.americanapparelstore.com
