Why Did You Wear That: Toot It and Boot It

women in boots

You know what I like almost as much as cashmere sweaters, puppies, and unicorns?  Boots!  A great pair of boots (or twenty) makes winter and the impending arctic ice storms (almost) bearable.  In addition to the standard short black bootie, knee high boots, and riding boots, there are four trend heavy boots I’ve picked up on for this fall…and you should too.  Toss one (or two, or three, or four) of these styles into your regularly scheduled program to kick things up a bit (had to).

Why Did You Wear That: Holy Moly!

fall trend 2012 cross jewelry

I don’t know what you did this past weekend (and it’s really none of my business), but maybe you’re feeling the need for a little repentance.  Fortunately for you, one of fall’s big jewelry trends may help ward off any unwelcome evil.  That’s right, the return of the rosary (or the cross) was shown on many of the runways. Paired perfectly with this fall’s luxurious leathers, velvets, crimsons, and blacks, the addition of this simplistic accessory is the perfect companion for a truly rocker ready look.  Opt for a long singular pendant, layer on in different lengths, or wrap around your wrists.  I’m not saying it’s going to replace praying in a pew, but it certainly can’t hurt.

rosary jewelery1. Bing Bang Vivienne Cross Earrings, $40, 2. Lynn Ban Diamond Cross Ring, $850, 3. Gorjana Cross Over Cuff, $80,  4. Jennifer Zeuner Horizontal Cross Necklace, $143, 5. Tarina Tarantino Gothic Lucite Skull Rosary Necklace, $99, 6. Ettika Cross Wrap Rosary Bracelet, $75, 7. Wildfox Black Crystal Cross Bracelet, $55.99, 8. Low Luv x Erin Wasson Cage Cross Necklace, $105, 9. House of Harlow 1960 Cross Pendant Necklace, $70

See you in church.

Why Did You Wear That: Jumping at the Chance

celebrity jumpsuits 2012Another one of my favorite “all in one” outfits is the jumpsuit; a very close cousin of the romper.  While you may equate the jumpsuit to the disco queens of the 70′s or the Angela Bowers of the 80′s, the jumpsuit is actually being made quite current by the A-list of the red carpet.  The jumpsuit started its reemergence last year, and I “jumped” right on that trend (couldn’t help it).  This look can be both casual (see my favorite American Apparel version here) and incredibly glamorous (remember when Rose Byrne first wore one to the SAG Awards?).  So, whether you choose to wear yours with flats for Sunday brunch or heels for Saturday night fever, this trend is sure to leave you looking anything but out of style.

summer jumpsuits1. Sparkle & Fade Open Back Jumper, $59, 2. Smith Tie Dye Jumper, $79, 3. Day Birger et Mikkelsen Ofelia Pleated Chiffon Jumpsuit, $250, 4. Kimchi Blue Crochet Jumper, $99, 5. Forever21 Elasticized Abstract Print Jumpsuit, $24.80, 6. Coincidence & Chance Gaucho Jumper, $49, 7. Sandro Preference Crepe Jumpsuit, $340, 8. ALICE by Temperley Lavender Jumpsuit, $450, 9. Free People Solid and Lace Jumpsuit, $328, 10.Edith A. Miller Maryam Jumpsuit, $330

Why Did You Wear That: Let’s Rock

nina nguyen necklaceIt’s true.  Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.  However, in the off chance that you aren’t dripping in them or perhaps, you’ve decided to give yours a day off, there are some other stones out there that are sure to add a bit of unexpected glamour to your get up.  Take a cue from your college requirement filling geology course.  That’s right, geodes and nature’s minerals are the new rocks you should be rocking.

I recently bought a Nina Nguyen necklace on Hautelook and it’s been a fan favorite with friends and family.  These gems make for great (and somewhat) affordable gifts as well.  Hey, they’re cheaper than diamonds… but just as pretty.

rock jewelry1. Charles Albert Tabasco Geode Ring, $175, 2. Gigi Chic Green Druzy Pendant Necklace, $65, 3. Nina Nguyen Bardot Bracelet, $98, 4. Nina Nguyen Vortex Geode Beaded Necklace, $195, 5. Why Did You Wear That: Oh Hey, Crochet!!

crochet poncho tunicWhile crochet is often associated with granola loving tree huggers or the back of your granny’s couch in doily form, it appears to be making quite the comeback and doing so quite stylishly.  So, you can go ahead and put down the Kashi and prunes.  Sure, sure, you could take it up as a new hobby.  There are enough books out there to teach yourself how to craft up your very own crochet creation… but who really has time for that?  Besides, there are plenty or pretty options already available and you won’t have to risk chipping a nail.  Crochet makes for great accessories or a sexy (knotty?) beach coverup.  The open weave gives you just enough skin showing and I mean, talk about ventilation.
