Friday Frocks: Cheers To That

By |December 5th, 2014|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

champagne toastThere’s lot to celebrate this time of year besides having just celebrated WhyDid.com’s sixth year of publishing as was made painfully clear this afternoon as our email chain grew longer and longer in an attempt to get all of our favorite girls together for a holiday party.  Every time we thought we’d locked down a day to congregate over cooking and cocktails, someone would pipe in with regrets over having obligations to another engagement.  We still haven’t quite nailed down a date for our holiday festivities, but in the meantime, I did nail down some festive frocks to get you through this season’s holiday party.  Cheers!

Friday Frocks: Check Me Out

types of plaid One of the fastest ways to get dressed and stay on trend this holiday season is in a festive plaid frock.  Whether, knit, flannel, or flowing tunic, there are several ways to get yourself checked out in plaid.  Try wearing with tights and boots or under a tough leather jacket.

Friday Frocks: Sweater Weather

By |September 19th, 2014|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

fall sweater dressBeing someone who typically favors skin grazing frocks and tops only slightly larger than sportsbras, it may come as quite a surprise that one of my favorite parts of cooler weather has absolutely nothing to do with pumpkin spice anything and a whole lot to do with slipping into a cozy, cuddly, oftentimes oversized sweater dress.

This is not the first time I’ve dedicated a Friday Frocks to sweater dressing and I can promise you, as it’s only mid-September, it won’t be the last.  Knit dresses are the perfect way to transition from chilly fall days to frosty winter evenings.  When the thermostat starts to head below 60, wear your knitwear with over the knee boots and toss on a leather jacket.  As the biting temperatures of winter arrive, layer your frock over patterned tights or a pair of complementary knit leggings (another really big trend for fall).  I may be the only one, but all I want to do is hug myself when wearing a soft cashmere sweater and fortunately, I’m quite flexible, so it’s entirely doable.  But seriously, if you see me in the street wearing a sweater dress, hugs are welcome.

Friday Frocks: Hittin’ the Books

private school girlsWhat’s easier than having a plaid skirt and button down laid out for your every morning?  A smart little dress that requires no mixing or matching because it is an entire outfit in and of itself.  Geek out in something plaid or opt for a collar that needs no popping.  The hardest thing about getting dressed in the morning will be deciding which shoes to wear.

Friday Frocks: Chemise-try 101

By |August 8th, 2014|Friday Frocks, Why Did You Wear That?|

lingerie clothesline bridal showerI remember slumber parties.  I don’t remember pillow fights in my panties though.  I think that cliché is some sort of sleazy scenario concocted by pervy males, when in reality, most slumber parties I attended involved Cosmo quizzes, Dr. Pepper, and pizza.  I guess nearly nude party games do sound a bit saucier.  At our age, most of the sleepovers we now attend are a bit more exclusive- like party of two and maybe a lucky dog at the foot of the bed.  While we probably should keep playing games of truth or dare until we die, we don’t necessarily need to continue donning oversized t-shirts and Soffe shorts of platonic slumber parties of years past.  One way to ensure the fire doesn’t dwindle after hours is to dress for bed like you’re dressing for your first date.  Not literally, of course, because you wouldn’t necessarily wear something see through to dinner at Le Cirque and a bodycon dress for bed might be too binding- but maybe you’re into that.  Swap your boxers for something silky, skip the pillow fights, and get right to the pillow talk.
