Speaking of sweets, who doesn’t love a simple, yet delicious dessert to cap off a summer meal?  Spoiler alert: no one.  This week, Breanne teaches us how to make a real crowd pleaser, that will also please you with how incredibly simple it is to make.  She walks us through how to use whatever fruit you have in your house (in this instance, plums were on sale) to make a very straightforward cobbler that would be perfect a la mode… had I not just polished off all of my supplies.  Watch this week’s How To Tuesday below and then test this recipe out for your next dinner party (and let me know which fruit variations you favor).  Then check back in next week to see what we’ll “How To” next.

How To Tuesday: I’m Back and I’m Bringing Friends

whydid youtube page

Over the past six years, I’ve made thirty four different “How To” videos ranging from how to find your perfect shade of red lipstick to making dog “pupcakes” to every type of braid under the sun (fishtail, rope, French, and milkmaid).  You voted, I chose for you, we all learned a lot.  Let’s call that a win/win.

And even when you weren’t learning to make bunny ears or flirt like a pro, I was behind the scenes teaching myself how to write, film, edit, and publish these videos.  When I lost my live in camera man, I figured out how to become a one woman production studio.  It was sometimes fun, often times challenging, all the time a learning experience.  Patience, problem solving, and lots of deep breathing got me through infuriating technical glitches and unfortunate rookie mistakes.

While I certainly can run my own operation, there’s that little phrase, “I get by with a little help from my friends.”  I’ve been so blessed to have come into contact with some truly extraordinary individuals in my lifetime and I’m even more fortuitous to call many of those people my friends and mentors.

Having edited the compilation video below, I grew awfully sick of staring at my own face and realized that perhaps you had too.  That’s when I recruited a few of my friends who are gifted in their own rights to come in and cohost “How To Tuesday” with me.  Pastry chefs, TV correspondents, health and wellness experts, hairstylists, and beauty wizards are only a few of the slew of talented humans who you will teach you “how to.”

So, brace yourselves, because we’re back and always keep in mind that everyone you meet has something they can teach.

Don’t forget to tell me what you’d like to learn “how to” in future episodes in the comments.

How To Tuesday: Roped In

By |May 20th, 2014|How To Tuesday, Why Don't You Watch?|

rope braidIt’s probably a pretty bad sign when the people at your local watering hole all gush about how great you look because it’s pretty much the first time they’ve ever seen your hair look anything less than a lion’s mane.  While I spent the majority of my late teens and early twenties attempting to tame the beast that is my hair, I eventually began to embrace and encourage the natural wavy/curly/frizzy texture.  However, summer is just about to be upon us and that humidity and my hair have bigger beef than Jay-Z and Solange.  Therefore, it is crucial to come up with clever ways to disguise the duress and one way of doing so is with a rope braid.  Upon first glance, I thought I would never master this style, but how could the queen of fishtail braids not accept the challenge?  It took a few “spins” to get it right, but once I did, I was happy to add this hairstyle to my summer arsenal.

How To Tuesday: The Perfect Margarita (Just in Time for Cinco de Mayo)

By |April 29th, 2014|How To Tuesday, Why Don't You Watch?|

kirsten smith smittyAs mentioned, May is a mere few days away.  Spring is in full swing and summer is hot on its trail.  Sure, Memorial Day is the real “summer kickoff” but I consider Cinco de Mayo the primer.  The last time I made a Cinco de Mayo video was beyond fun, but a bit chaotic.  This week’s episode gets down to the nitty gritty- a Cinco de Mayo (and basically all summer long) essential: the perfect margarita.  Watch as my special guest, Cesar Navarro, walks us through the simple and delicious recipe.

How To Tuesday: Damsel in Distressed Denim

By |April 22nd, 2014|How To Tuesday, Why Don't You Watch?|

destroyed denimIt seems counterintuitive to want to wear something that looks like it’s been handed down– for several generations, but destroyed denim came back onto the fashion scene several seasons ago and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.  I especially like it for the warmer months as if those extra holes are going to provide any extra ventilation in prevention of the dreaded “swamp ass.”  My parents are always confused when I wear a pair of shredded jeans around them… even more so when they find out how much I shelled out for them.  So, if you are anything like Dick and Georgia and want to achieve the look of distressed denim without distressing your bank account, I have the tricks to DIY destroyed denim.  You can also apply all of these techniques to denim cut off shorts (like the ones I taught you how to make last spring here).
