I mean, I’m not even going to pretend I like soccer or have the slightest clue as to what is going on with this so-called “World Cup.” I do know the boys are super hot. I also know the US apparently tied England and that just seems like a big waste of time to me. Ninety minutes and no winner? Psssh. (Yes, I Googled “how long is a soccer game?” Don’t judge me).

That being said, I do appreciate the excitement and enthusiasm that people seem to have for the game (Lakers bandwagoners have nothing on World Cup bandwagoners). While strolling home late one night (morning) we ran into a raucous group who had formed their very own sidewalk party. As good New Yorkers, we joined in the fun.  We obviously had to find out what exactly was going on.

Quite honestly, we never did find out what the eff was going on. No one seemed to have a clue, nor did they care. Yet another reason to love NY. I think it is safe to assume that it did, in fact, have something to do with soccer. This video is kind of how I feel about the World Cup: no idea how we got here, no idea what’s going on, but sure does look like we’re having fun.

    01-smoky-eye-dec-15

When we needed to get all dolled up for the WhyDid photoshoot, we called in makeup artist, Stephanie Peterson, to get us camera ready. Below she tells us a little bit about herself and shows us a demo of how to get a sexy smokey eye. (Hope you really like staring at my face).

In case you couldn’t follow along with the video, here is Stephanie’s “how to” tips:

    • Cover your bases: keep your eyebrows in check, use a base for shadow, and pop in color on your lips.
    • Start with a neutral color all over the lid.
    • Put liner on the inside of the lash line to make lashes look thicker.
    • Use darker shadow right above the crease of the lid.
    • Leave lid “play area” open to add a pop of color  later.
    • Blend, blend, blend. The key to a smokey eye is blending.
    • You can always go back and add more drama after blending.
    • Use loose powder under the eye to catch any stray shadow. Sweep away when finished.
    • Top off your smokey eye with liner and mascara (make sure to blend!).
    • Look beautiful.
    • Break hearts.

Okay, so I threw in the last two. To get more advice from our beauty expert, Stephanie, or to book her for your next event/shoot check out her website: www.stephanienyc.com

Remember: where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

  • WhyDid Does Cinco De Mayo

Well, happy Cinco De Mayo, little lovebugs. Who doesn’t love a “holiday” that includes tacos, tequila, and perhaps some maracas? We had a little fiesta pre-Cinco, but we were just practicing. We gathered together a fun bunch of friends, wrangled our own personal chef, and stocked up on props. You can put together your own pinata filled party by following a couple of fun recipes and tips.

    Jessi’s Amazing Enchiladas:

    Ground Turkey

    White Onion

    Taco Seasoning

    Soft Tortillas

    Red or Green Enchilada Sauce

    Shredded Mexican Cheese

Dice onion and toss  into a frying pan with the ground turkey and taco seasoning. Cook until browned. Place a small amount of Mexican shredded cheese in the center of each tortilla, add a scoop of meat and onions and roll it up. Put either red or green enchilada sauce on top of rolled tortilla and toss on the cheese. Bake in oven for 15 – 20 minutes at 350 degrees. **Note: be sure to grease the pan!! (You’ll see why in the video).

    Classic Margarita:

1 1/2 ounces of tequila (blanco

1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

1/2 ounce Cointreau (not triple sec)

Cayenne salt for rimming glass (optional)

Moisten rim of glass with water and rim with salt. Fill glass with ice. Add tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice with ice in a shaker and mix. Pour into glass. Enjoy.

We attempted a normal “how to” video, but margaritas, maracas, and sombreros tend to make that a bit difficult. Below is a sort of tutorial/trainwreck Mexican montage.

You may think that all we do over here at WhyDid.com is paint our nails with glitter and drink bellinis, and while you’re partially right, we’re a lot more well rounded than that. Last week the weather turned into the glorious spring sunshine that all New Yorkers know and love. So, rather than our typical perch on the Soho House roof, we decided to get physical and enjoy this beautiful city. It’s easy to forget that even our little concrete jungle has some natural beauty of its own (and we don’t mean the models crowding the sidewalks).

We picked up some rollerblades at Kmart (yes, we do have one of those), decorated them (because why wouldn’t we?), and headed on over to the Hudson to test out our new wheels. It was a really great idea in theory, but this is yet another example of “you get what you pay for.” We only paid $32 for our little stunners (hey, they were the only PINK ones!) and they rolled like a bike with a flat tire. So, after about five blocks, we retired our skates and traded them in for a different set of wheels – bikes! (You can rent them at a place over on Christopher and the Westside Highway for $15/2 hours).

I hadn’t ridden a bike in YEARS, so it took a little while to get used to it again. Bikes were much more fun than blades. I wouldn’t suggest taking on the traffic in the city, but the path along the Hudson was perfect. We rode all the way down to Battery Park and had a delicious dinner at Gigino. They have a special prix fixe dinner for $28 (de-lish). It was like we never ate since we biked there and back. Can’t beat that! We ended our evening with a little sunset cocktail on the roof (and Nigel Barker decided he didn’t want to get in the elevator with us- he waited for the next one. Hmph!). It was really a perfect (and wholesome) day.

Next time you’re looking for something fun and physical to get into, why not get some wheels? We’re thinking skateboarding and hula hooping next. Stay tuned.

We’ve been gone, but hopefully not forgotten. You may think that it’s because we’ve been swinging from the chandeliers and nursing our hangovers, but you’d be wrong (for once). We’ve actually been hard at work making WhyDid a more beautiful place. Since we know you’re prob kind of salty with us, we’ve got a special video treat to prove just how hard we’ve been working. Kind of like a doctor’s note.

Still mad? C’mon! How can you be mad at that?

drunk_leprechaunSo , we survived the madness that is called “St. Patrick’s Day” but just barely. We set out to uncover the mystery of this joyous day. Why do people celebrate so hard? Are there that many Irish people in the country? Or are we just riding their coattails and taking advantage of their pension for booze?

Well, you know us… we can’t just sit and wonder. We have to find out. So we set off on a journey in search of rainbows and leperchauns. We met some real characters along the way and in true WhyDid form… ended the day with our own version of a pot of gold… cupcakes!

So go ahead and nurse your hangover by watching ours!

  • Why In Gay Hell Wouldn’t I Be Tan?

    orange3_fn

Sooo it’s “Beach Week” here at WhyDid and obviously you can’t go prancing around the pool looking pasty. So what’s a girl to do?  Get a tan, of course! I don’t mean go fry yourself under a heat lamp like a piece of fried chicken.  No one looks good with premature wrinkles and skin cancer.  I mean fake the funk with a fake tan.  To illustrate this, WhyDon’tYouEatMe, WhyDidYouWearThat, and I set off on a spray tan adventure which we’ll share with you below. Sit back, switch your heat lamp off and enjoy.

Sooo what was the outcome? Well, we’re all tan. We all have some degree of “tan palms.” The Fusion Glow tan of WhyDon’tYouEatMe was the most subtle and just gave a slightly sunkissed glow. A Tan For All Seasons gave WhyDidYouWearThat a bronze tan that looks like she spent a few days at the beach. It actually came out very brown as opposed to orange like a tangerine. And as for me? I am not nearly as tan as I was hoping to be. If you are only looking to be somewhat tan, Tan Towel is a good option, but not if you want to look like you spent a week baking in Jamaica. All in all, we all look beach ready. Remember, people, a fake tan is not a real base tan and you should ALWAYS use some type of sunscreen when basking in the UV rays. I mean, Why In Gay Hell would you want to look like a lobster when you can look like a Greek god?

  • Where My Dogs At?

    Cupcake_Cover_7_18_07_043croppedsmall

News flash: I’m obsessed with my dog. He has a CLOSET for crying out loud. Needless to say, he’s a pampered little K-9. (My vet actually told me he’s spoiled and has an attitude problem- which only made me love him more).  So, of course, he gets one heck of a bday party every year. Lucky for him, it’s cupcake week. Why should he (or your pooch) be excluded? Below is a pretty simple recipe for doggy cupcakes- dare I say, “pupcakes”?

    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 cup soft butter
    1/2 cup corn oil
1 jar strained beef baby food
    4 eggs
    bacon bits

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cream butter until smooth. Add corn oil, baby food, and eggs. Mix until smooth.

Mix dry ingredients into beef mixture until batter is smooth. Fold bacon bits into batter. Spoon batter into cupcake tin. Bake for  30 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Frost with low fat cream cheese and sprinkle with bacon bits. Also, you can use ketchup to write a little message or add some extra flair. (recipe makes around a dozen pupcakes).

We love themes. Not sure if you heard. So, when our dear friend, CindyLou told us she wanted to celebrate her birthday a la the Mad Hatter, we were all over it.

And don’t be silly.  There were obviously cupcakes involved (it IS Cupcake week after all).

Cuppies courtesy of Red Velvet… now we’ve all tested them out and WhyDon’tYouEatMe was dead on (obvi). Good news for our sweet tooth, bad news for our thighs and heads.

As some of you may know, we’re getting fancy over here at WhyDid… Christmas either came really early or kinda late for us yesterday. We got ourselves a pretty pink Flip video camera. So you know what that means, right? MORE OF OUR PRETTY FACES!! I know! You’re welcome. Here’s a clip of WhyInGayHell and I testing it out. Just your typical Friday afternoon… (please pardon the mess and WIGH’s munching).
