Friday Frocks: White Nights

By |May 31st, 2013|Friday Frocks|

We’ve passed that fashion milestone known as Memorial Day, which traditionally signals the ol’ “go ahead” for wearing white (we know that’s somewhat outdated, but in the off chance you’re a traditionalist…).  The only time of year a little white dress can trump the little black dress, other than your wedding day or perhaps the Oscars, is from June until late August.  So, get your faux glow on and slip into something lighter and whiter to create your own white night.

Beauty Buzz: Hide… Don’t Seek.

By |May 30th, 2013|Beauty Buzz|

For years, I’d basically given up on finding a good concealer.  When a not so friendly facial visitor would set up shop on my face, I just tried to blend it as best I could then play a little game of smoke and mirrors by piling on the Benetint and upping the eyeliner.  I found that most concealers ended up making blemishes look that much more noticeable– like, literally making a mountain out of a molehill.   Then one fateful evening before a first date, I peered into the mirror in horror.  I was either growing a pimple directly between my brows or I was finally turning into a unicorn.  Turns out it was the former.  I didn’t really have time to perform “surgery” on it, so I checked to see what samples I had lying around.  Well, as luck would have it, I had a teeny tube of Miracle Skin Transformer Treat & Conceal.  A tiny dab on my pesky pimple and au revoir!  No one would be the wiser.  So, next time another blemish decides to make an appearance, I’m fully armed and it won’t set me back a month’s rent like the cult favorite from Cle de Peau.

And for the record, the only one who got lucky that evening was me… for finding my new favorite concealer.

Why Did You Wear That: Initial Thoughts?

By |May 29th, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

alphabet soupSure, Carrie Bradshaw may have started the name craze with her nameplate necklace, but I think the single initial may be the new nameplate.  I can be seen on most days wearing a “K” pendant and a signet ring that belonged to my mom which she had re-engraved with my own initials.  On a very sunny day, you may even find me sporting a baseball cap embroidered with my first initial.  One might conclude that I’m quite fond of my name and honestly, why shouldn’t I be? My parents thought I was going to be a boy.

Love your name too?  (duh.)  Then it’s time to rep your own crew by donning your signature spelling in one of many fashions available.  I mean, I guess it will make it that much easier for strangers to guess your name (yet you geotag yourself on Instagram)… and I suppose joke’s on you if I tell you my name is Genevieve while wearing a necklace emblazoned with a “K.”

Why Did You Wear That: Summer Skimming

By |May 28th, 2013|Why Did You Wear That?|

Okay, so you couldn’t track down those Chanel espadrilles that every blogger under the sun has been spotted sporting, or maybe you couldn’t fathom throwing down upwards of $400 on summer flats.  Perhaps, like me, you prefer to stand out rather than blend in with the masses.  In any case, this summer’s perfect flat to run around town (or the boardwalk) in is the flat espadrille.  A welcome change (for me, at least) from the standard ballet flat, a lifesaver in between pedicures, and a more polished option than flip flops, it’s time for you to grab a pair or two of your own.  Check out the pair above that I procured (and posted on my Instagram) for summer skimming.

Friday Frocks: The Perfect Coverup

By |May 24th, 2013|Friday Frocks|

beach hammock girlsAlmost as important as that bikini is how you choose to transport yourself from Point A to your final destination.  The coverup should be chicer than throwing on a pair of Soffe shorts and tank.  Put a little pride in your poolside presence by picking out a coverup that could easily be mistaken for a frock.  In my experience, poolside rose often leads to post beach cocktails and oysters and sometimes even a little bit of table dancing… but maybe that’s just me.  Anyway, just make sure your coverup continues to be sexy, not soggy after a long day of fun on in the sun.
