Why Did You Wear That: Go-To Getup

Do you have one of those outfits that you always gravitate to when you’re in a rush and need to look nice?  Well, this is one of mine.  As a matter of fact, when plans for shooting the original outfit fell through (thanks a lot temperamental weather), I decided, instead, to shoot this one.  I love it because it’s so easy… not to mention comfortable.  Let’s be serious, I’m essentially wearing a nightshirt.  Not my grandpa’s nightshirt, but close enough.  I also realize now that I’m taking a moment to look at it that it has a slight scallywag feel to it, but as mentioned- I love seamen.

A long loose feminine blouse, soft velvet leggings, and boots with a bow make for an easy, yet pulled together look.  I obviously wouldn’t wear velvet leggings in say, July, but for fall, they are one of my favorites.  And because I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t say it, “Leggings are not pants.”

Setting the Mood: Don’t be a Tragedy

The Great Gatsby is considered one of the best literary works of the 20th century.  (If you haven’t read it, you really should– don’t wait for the movie remake with Leo– that’s cheating).  It’s also often cited as inspiration for parties, weddings, even runway collections.  While there is no denying the glamour that was the roaring 20’s, it seems that perhaps we’ve forgotten what a tragic story The Great Gatsby really is.  Sure Gatsby threw one heck of a party, but let’s remember (SPOILER ALERT) that this romanticized tale ends in multiple deaths and a suicide.  So, next time you’re looking to throw a theme party full of old world glitz, perhaps you should just notate the attire as “Roaring 20’s” rather than “Gatsby.”  The clothes were fabulous.  The plotline?  Tragic.

Monday Mashup: Warm Nuts?

One of my very favorite new TV shows (and probably soon to be one of this year’s most popular Halloween costumes) is PanAm.  What’s not to like?  Beautiful girls, handsome pilots, international intrigue… I swear, I will lose my mind if it suffers the same fate as Playboy Club and gets canceled.  I can not bear to watch anymore poorly scripted reality TV.  Anyway, these lovely ladies in blue are sure to inspire many to dress up this October 31 and probably even inspire some to submit their resumes to become “waitresses of the sky.” And apparently, it has already inspired two of pop music’s most famous females.

Whether intentionally or not, both Lady Gaga and Britney Spears have both donned blue flight attendant-esque attire.  So, my question is this: Who would make a better flight attendant (is that the politically correct term? I can’t keep up).

Look for Less: Wrap It Up

A couple of weeks ago, a friend sent me a message asking if it was, in fact, too soon to break out the winter scarf.  Now, I’m a big fan of scarves, so my answer?  “It’s really never too soon for a scarf.”  Granted, you may look a little ridiculous when pairing a heavy winter weight scarf with a tank top and flip flops, but tucking a scarf in/on your bag for an evening out is always a great idea.  There’s been quite a few instances where I’ve been caught off guard by a sudden nip in the air and felt lucky that I had a sunggly scarf to wrap around me.  Now that it’s officially fall, scarves are fair game.  So, let’s see how some of Hollywood’s stylish startlets are sporting their scarves:
