Why Did You Eat That: Put Some Pep(peroni) In Your Step

By |August 29th, 2011|Recipes, Why Did You Eat That?|

20110829-111010.jpgYou might have noticed that I’ve been a bit slow with my blogging lately. Well, that’s because I’ve returned to my birthplace. My roots. My home away from home. Wheeling, West by God Virginia. And while I do enjoy laying around lackadaisically, I do not enjoy the fact that my sweet, sweet mother has yet to set up her wireless Internet making me feel as if I am, in fact, in the boondocks.

Anyway, I thought I would share the recipe a little local delicacy known as the pepperoni roll. Here’s the funny thing- I never realized this was a regional delight because while I was born in West Virginia I grew up in Florida. My mom made pepperoni rolls for our school lunches (lot better than a turkey sandwich, eh?) and so I spent my formative years thinking this was a normal thing and everyone’s mom had made them pepperoni rolls at one point or another. That is until I headed to the Big Apple and got the same looks as a person saying, “please” when I mentioned this tasty treat. Upon further research I found that the rest of the world was not privy to pepperoni rolls and so today I’m going to share a wonderfully simple recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 8 oz. can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • Approximately 5 oz. pepperoni sliced
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and separate dough into triangles on non-stick cookie sheet.
  2. Drizzle center of triangle with sauce and arrange pepperoni and cheese on top of sauce.
  3. Roll into a crescent.  Repeat for all dough.
  4. Bake in oven for 10 to 15 minutes.

Now, I’m aware there are probably some pepperoni roll purists out there shaking their heads and scoffing at my simple recipe– but it’s all I got and it’s pretty damn tasty (in my humble opinion).  So, the next time you’re traveling through the great state of West Virginia (HA!) be sure to stop for a snack and make sure it’s a pepperoni roll.

Why I Can’t Sit Through the VMA’s

By |August 28th, 2011|Red Carpet Recap|

20110828-091401.jpg

Oh sweet heaven above. Perhaps I’m just getting old, but I tuned into the MTV VMA pre-show because you know I love to blog about the oh so crazy fashion on the red carpet. However, after witnessing Justin Bieber arrive with a snake named “Johnson” followed by Nicki Minaj in another one of Lady Gaga’s rejected costumes, I couldn’t take much more. Then Katy Perry showed up with pink hair and Asian garb- complete with parasol- and I’d had enough. I needed to make a cocktail if I was going to attempt to sit through this shit storm. (Irene who?)

When I returned with a Bloody Mary, there was a very strange man performing “You And I.” Was I drunk on vodka fumes alone? Oh, it’s just Gaga.

You know who’s not drunk? Beyonce.

Now I’m gonna go finish my cocktail and if I have it in me will continue with red carpet commentary.

The List Volume LII

By |August 27th, 2011|The List|

20110827-095129.jpg

I’m writing this post from my phone so that I, too, may pretend that my power’s gone out and am facing the wrath of “Hurricane” Irene.

1. New York. Do you happen to be related to the Kardashians? Cause you’re acting like a total media whore this week. First an earthquake now a hurricane?

2. People who wait til they’re ON the plane to eat. No, by all means, eat your burrito on my lap. Want me to hold your drink?

3. Having to pay $7.99 to watch cable TV on a plane. Hey, Continental, you already charged me $25 for a bag, you couldn’t gift me a few House Hunters International reruns?

4. Folks who take credit for “coming up with” something. Just cause you were within a five mile radius doesn’t mean you had anything to do with it.

5. Bad Girls Club. Who watches that? No, I’m seriously asking.

6. Smitty’s breath.

7. Our media outlets amping up anything they can to make a story. You’re making our already melodramatic society even more so.

8. People pretending to have perfect lives. We’re all effed up. Join our club.

9. The phrase, “That’s what I’m talking about!” What are you talking about?

10. Blogging from my iPhone.

Beauty Buzz: I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts

By |August 25th, 2011|Beauty Buzz|

Don’t get the Zazu reference? Probably need to go ahead and rent a copy of The Lion King, STAT. Anyway, while out the other day at Target (a perk of the suburban sprawl) I was picking up the necessary toiletries when I stumbled upon a packet of Palmer’s Coconut Oil Deep Conditioner. I was intrigued. Made with pure coconut milk, coconut oil, and vitamin E this little packet promised a big punch. Well, let me tell you- the best $1.69 I’ve ever spent. Seriously. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on fancy pants deep conditioning treatments and I must admit… this bargain beauty buy held its own. Not to mention, it smells absolutely delicious. Every time I flip my hair (and I do that a lot), I’m transported to an exotic island with white sandy beaches, never ending pina coladas, and men in Speedos fanning me with palm fronds… Oh, sorry… forgot where I was.

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Deep Conditioning Protein Pack

Coconut oil isn’t just good for you hair though. There’s a plethora of other uses for coconut oil:

  • Antibacterial
  • Antifungal
  • Emollient
  • Psoriasis relief
  • Cholesterol control
  • Weight control
  • Aids immune system
If you’re not already slathering yourself with this delicious tropical oil… well, you should be. I’ll save you a seat by the pool.

Would You Wednesday: Is White Alright?

By |August 25th, 2011|Why Did or Why Don't?|

Several brides have recently decked their wedding parties out in white (Kate, Kate, Kim). I’ve been a fan of this look for quite some time, but it seems to be shocking to some, however, this is nothing new in British culture. It is said that traditionally, the bridesmaids and other attendants wore white so as to “confuse” and ward off evil spirits. Alright, well, that’s a little ridiculous, but there’s no denying it– an all white wedding party looks incredibly fresh and chic. So what about your wedding guests?

When the first wedding photos from Kim’s wedding emerged, there was much buzz regarding Lindsay Lohan in a sexy white Jenny Packham gown. I thought to myself, “Go figure. It’s Lindsay Lohan.” Thankfully, it was soon released that said wedding had a “black and white” dress code, so Lindsay wasn’t being her typically sloppy self. Phew! There’s one thing Kim K and I can agree on. I love a good dress code. That’s all we’ve got though. Anyway, what I am really wondering about is whether or not you think wearing white to a wedding other than your own is a major fashion faux pas. Thoughts?

Here comes the bridesmaid!
