Gift Guide: Not Too Late for Mom!

By |May 8th, 2009|Gift Guide|

Okay, slackers… Did you seriously forget about mom? The woman who gave you those good genes and taught you to apply  mascara?

Well, here are a few little last minute suggestions to get you off the hook:

  • Flowers- this is totally obvious and you can still get them to her on time. Why not actually take some time to pick out some nice ones? I sent my mom a potted gardenia plant last year. Big hit.
  • Send a card- It’s going to be late, but the postal service isn’t always so reliable is it? 😉 A great site that I found- www.astonishingcards.com.  You can make photo cards. Earn bonus points by sending her a card with a great photo of the two of you.
  • Go shopping with her! (And this time- you foot the bill!)farinellis09_mothers_day_flyer-767223(online coupon codes- mothersday09, mothersdayjeans)
  • Take her to brunch. Sometimes all mom wants is to spend some time with you. (Again, don’t you DARE let her pay).
  • Arrange a pedicure or spa treatment at a nice local salon. She would never book it for herself. www.spafinder.com
  • At the very least, make sure you call her and tell her how much you love her and thank her for everything she’s done for you (i.e., carry you around in her uterus for 9 months and ruin her perfect figure).

Why Did You Wear That: Camel Ammo

By |May 8th, 2009|Why Did You Wear That?|

So you guys were pretty obsessed with Bump-Its, but apparently, you were really obsessed with Kamelflage.

productimage2

Well, good news. I’m going to blog about it again.  The ladies of Kamelflage have re-branded and are now going by the name of “CamelAmmo.” Yes, I’m for serious. No, I don’t know how they keep coming up with these names. I would like to think that it was after a few too many glasses of rose, but I think we’ll have to ask them about it.

CamelAmmo is patent pending and is intended for fighting the “frontal wedgie.” These little panty partners are to be inserted in the front lining of your undies, like so:

Now, the ladies of CamelAmmo insist that now you can “size down” but I still stand firm that if you are getting wrinkles in the crotch or any other area, you’re in the wrong size. I had a wonderful sewing teacher in college (yes, I was required to complete an entire course on learning to sew) who always said, “Wrinkles point to the problem area.” Words to live by, ladies.

I personally, have not tried these little guys out, so I’m not sure how effective they are, but I think in the case of leggings, which by the way, still are not pants, they could be pretty helpful.  Hey, Miss Marshall, these might be a good investment for you.

You can now visit their website (www.camelammo.com) and purchase your very own CamelAmmo.

Why Did You Wear That: Subway Style

As I made my way to the dentist today, yes, the dentist, I realized I have been neglecting a huge sub category of fashion.  Some of the craziest people/outfits I have ever seen have been on the train.  (Don’t worry Mom and Dad-it’s totally safe).  For instance, today, I sat down next to a woman who literally had the LONGEST fingernails I have ever seen in my life.  They weren’t acrylic nails either.  They were au naturale. Creepy!  I finally have figured out how to take photos on my phone without the flash going off, but in this particular instance, I was actually scared.

Anyway, it is now my plan to get lots of hilarious color from the commuter population. They are easy targets too, cause they are stuck underground with me for at least a good five minutes…

On another note, I know people generally hate the dentist, but I seriously went to the best most capable dentist today.  It’s always a gamble when picking doctors/dentists/ob-gyns in NYC, so a good referral is always appreciated.  Dr. Ladani at Central Park Dentistry (yes, it’s ALL the way up town) was amazing. So next time you are due for a good teeth cleaning give him a call- 212-678-1144.  Your teeth are just as important as your shoes, you know.  Nobody likes a snaggle tooth.

Beauty Buzz: Work it!

By |May 5th, 2009|Beauty Buzz|

As I’ve found a new found love for the gym (it’s an elevator ride away, plus… I’ve got a lot of free time on my hands these days), I’ve also discovered a little something that will aid in your fight against cellulite.  It’s not a magical potion or cream- it’s been proven that the best way to rid yourself of cottage cheese is good old fashioned exercise.

Remember Fit Flops?  Well, Reebok has come up with a sneaker that uses the same type of technology, which means that while you’re working out, you’re doing double duty (for your booty)!  The Reebok Easy Tone uses little “pods” built into the bottom of the shoe to create “instability” which forces your body to be working even when you aren’t working it. It targets three areas (the areas that all of us worry about) your glutes, your hamstrings, and your calves. Bonus- they’re cute too!
